WTF, Dorkus!: Schoolin' My Shrink On Teen Suicide | Tripsy South
3 posts | 2 read
Tripsy South is a super-smart and thinking seventeen-year-old girl with a hyperkinetic knowledge of suicide in teens. Out of the blue, she descends into the office of Dr. Jon Moore, who treats troubled children and suicidal teens. She then begins a year-long series of in-depth psychiatric sessions that test Dr. Moore's last raw nerve.

This book (recently retitled “Suicide Tango“) did elicit strong emotions for me - unfortunately, they weren't positive. The writer completely missed the mark on accurately describing mental illness, a working therapist-patient relationship, and how people actually experience suicidality. I get that the author was trying to write a satire, but that form has to be based in reality to work. Instead, this felt completely irresponsible. #NetGalley

LiteraryinLawrence Oh wow. I just read a summary this morning of a study on the correlation between the Netflix series 13 Reasons Why and an increase in teen suicides. Just another reminder that how we represent mental health and suicide is so important. 5y
EKonrad @LiteraryinLititz You‘re absolutely right! That‘s why this book infuriated me so much! 😡 5y

This book started out okay for the prologue but then took a turn into the racist and uncalled for with phrases like how the Chinese seemed intent to spread their "piss and crap" all over the USA. I just really stuck with this to see how it ended and even thay felt like a cop out ending. Really disappointing #NetGalley choice

Texreader Sounds awful. Thanks for letting us know 5y

Giving this a try for #NetGalley and so far I find it weird and a bit unsettling and unrealistic, but I want to know how it ends...
