How Not to Ask a Boy to Prom
How Not to Ask a Boy to Prom | S. J. Goslee
7 posts | 5 read | 15 to read
Nolan Grant is sixteen, gay, and very, very single. He's never had a boyfriend, or even been kissed. It's not like Penn Valley is exactly brimming with prospects. Nolan plans to ride out the rest of his junior year drawing narwhals, working at the greenhouse, and avoiding anything that involves an ounce of school spirit. Unfortunately for him, his adoptive big sister has other ideas. Ideas that involve too-tight pants, a baggie full of purple glitter, and worst of all: a Junior-Senior prom ticket. How (Not) to Ask a Boy to Prom is a modern gender-bent young adult rom com from S. J. Goslee.

Pickpick

This book suffers from a plague of people who WILL NOT talk about their feelings under any circumstances, and could use some more space for character development to help you catch with the 40,000 characters, but ultimately it was a quick, cute read and I liked it!

What happens if you fill the cast of a YA novel with 100% disaster gays?

Finished One Day in the Life of Ivan Denisovich on the runway and pulled out this, the only other book I brought on my trip, while sitting across from my very religious clients. 😬

Mehso-so

Eh. Seriously, just eh. I didn't hate it, and it wasn't horrible, but I wasn't particularly attached to any of the characters or the main couple. I did enjoy some of the messages about family and some of the banter between the characters was solid, but that's about it. I think if it was a longer book and a little more thoughtfully written it really could have been great, but compared to many other romances I've read recently, it's just so-so.

Hey, it‘s reading in the backyard time! Well, that and letting the dogs be dogs and enjoy the fresh air. It‘s been a long, difficult day, starting with an incompetent receptionist and not even ending with an entitled, ageist, ableist asshole who thought that that he deserved to get a parking space and who called my partner senile (she‘s anything but). This looks like it will be a quick, wonderfully light read, just the thing I need today.
