Blood on the Tongue
Blood on the Tongue: A Cooper & Fry Mystery | Stephen Booth
6 posts | 7 read | 3 to read
Stephen Booth returns with an evocative mystery perfect for fans of Ian Rankin and Peter Robinson. It's a new year for Ben Cooper and Diane Fry, and that means new mysteries to solve in the icy depths of a bitter winter. It isn't the easiest way to commit suicide, but the dead woman seems to have simply curled up in the freezing snow and lain there until her heart stopped. There was no one to observe her death but the foxes and the hares. Yet she is riddled with bruises. Her demise is horrifying. Is it also suspicious? When two more bodies are found, Cooper and Fry begin to wonder whether these tragedies are connectedand whether they will survive the winter . . .

This book takes place in the Peak District of England. The unidentified body of a dead man has turned up on a frosty roadside. An abused woman is found in the snow on nearby Irontongue Hill, an apparent suicide. There is a Royal Air Force bomber that crashed in 1945 killing everyone on board except the pilot who walked away from the wreckage.

EadieB This is an intriguing plot with interesting characters. Ben Cooper is bound and determined to help the Canadian granddaughter of the pilot to solve this mystery. I am now looking forward to the next book in the series. If you enjoy police procedurals with well-balanced characters then you will love this book. 1y

Pickpick

I picked this up for the setting (the Peak District) and for the WW2 plane crash plotline. I liked it well enough and would pick up another in the series.

Used bookstores are always an Aladdin's cave 😁

This sounds like the big brother of a chaotically small used bookstore I sometimes visit here in town. It's so crammed that it's almost impossible to browse in winter, with puffy coats and heavy boots on all the patrons.

A used bookstore called Eden Valley Books has popped up a lot in this book 🤓
