Ben Lerner is quite innovative in The Topeka School, in a way that I didn‘t fully appreciate until I read this review by The Guardian: https://www.theguardian.com/books/2019/nov/04/it-made-me-really-crazy-ben-lerner....

Loving this novel! It is so great! I spent the day on my sun lounge in the Australian sun. Multiple and compelling voices and so evocative!! Conflicted characters and relationships and you are gifted with the task of piecing all the info together. The audiobook is FABULOUS!!!! I find myself listening to a chapter and then I relish reading it to make sure that what I think I know is true. So many layers and connections.
I was a little confused by this audiobook because it had 3 narrators, but 1 of them read parts from 2 different characters who were the same age and gender, but it might have been my fault because my attention does tend to wander when listening.
That said, the language in this book is gorgeous and I appreciated the way a single line could evoke an earlier scene. I would definitely be willing to read more books by Lerner.
Unsure how I feel about this one. I liked the topic and the prose was beautiful but I made it all the way to the last page before I could decide if I liked it or not. I did, but it shouldn‘t have taken that long to decide.
