HILO s BA-ACK in this funny, New York Times Bestselling, full-color new middle-grade graphic novel series that "Bone" creator Jeff Smith calls delightful and Lincoln Peirce says every kid will love! DJ and Gina are TOTALLY ordinary kids. But Hilo . . . isn t. HILO is just settling into life on earth (Bowling? Knock-knock jokes? OUTSTANDING!) when strange portals begin opening up all over town. And HOLY MACKEREL! Even STRANGER creatures are coming through them! But it will take more than a GIANT MUTANT CHICKEN, A VIKING HIPPO, A MAGICAL WARRIOR CAT, or even a few MILLION KILLER VEGETABLES to stop Team Hilo . . . er, WON T IT? Can Hilo, DJ, and GINA figure out how to send these creatures back to their worlds before they DESTROY the earth? HILO is Calvin and Hobbes meets Big Nate and is just right for fans of Bone and comic books as well as laugh-out-loud school adventures like Jedi Academy and Diary of a Wimpy Kid! Praise for HILO Every kid would love a pal like HILO, and every kid will love this book! Lincoln Peirce, bestselling author of the Big Nate series HILO is delightful, silly, tender, and most importantly: funny. Jeff Smith, bestselling author of the Bone series HILO is loads of slapstick fun with a touch of tenderness that kids will love. Dan Santat, Caldecott Medal winner High energy and HILARIOUS! Gene Luen Yang, winner of the Printz and Eisner Awards, two-time National Book Award finalist A perfect book for any kid who ever needed a friend and then had one with superpowers fall from space. Seth Meyers, actor, comedian and writer The most enjoyable hero to hit the library shelves in years. Good clean laser-beams-coming-outta-your-hands fun for the whole family. New characters, bigger troubles and one really big surprise propel this series forward in Book 3. Young readers undoubtedly love the books for the humor and adventure inside but they likely also appreciate the power of friendship on display as Hilo, D.J., and Gina work together to overcome a host of problems. It's easy to see why this series is so popular. (And I have to credit my son with good taste in books.) I'm looking forward to Book 4.

Ok, these books are definitely a lot of fun. Honestly, I don't know how you can go wrong with magical cats, Viking hippos, and mutant chickens. If that isn't enough for you, the stakes are higher (Hilo, D.J., and Gina are saving the world after all), the friendships are stronger, and the danger is greater. This series is fantastic and it's easy to see why kids and adults alike enjoy it so much.

'Hilo: The Boy Who Crashed to Earth' ended with a cliffhanger so yeah, I'm reading the second one. I need to know what happens next...

I *love* these! Fun & funny with great values, diverse characters (Asian, Black, a robot, & a smart girl), beautifully written & illustrated, deals with low self-esteem; not fitting in; friendship; being who you really are; societal & family pressure; helping someone you love; and doing what is right. Should appeal to readers who like comics, superheroes, robots, and/or humor. I enjoyed these immensely and can't wait for the next one to come out.

Love this smart, funny, action-packed graphic novel series from Judd Winnick. Look for the third book in the series, THE GREAT BIG BOOM, in February! #bookaday
