Wings
Wings: A Fairy Tale | E. D. Baker
5 posts | 4 read | 4 to read
Tamisin has always been a little weird. Her freckles actually look more like sparkles and occasionally, she likes to dance under the full moon. Then one day, wings sprout from her back, and Tamisin learns that her parents adopted her from fairyland. Inspired by A Midsummer Nights Dream, this fairy tale will delight fans of The Tales of the Frog Princess and new readers alike.

“Tamisin Warner, the strangest girl in school, has wings!”

Wings: A Fairy Tale | E. D. Baker

This book is more of a “fairy tale”. The concept of “wings growing out of your back” is intriguing to children and a story I think they would find interesting.

Genre: Modern Fantasy
This book is about a girl named Tamisin, who always knew that there was something different about herself. When she begins to grow wings, many questions begin to sprout, and she ends up getting more than she bargained for when she gets the answers.

Wings by E. D. Baker (F) was the first “big” chapter book I ever read by myself. This book is about a young girl who suddenly turns into a fairy and a young boy who struggles to understand why he is so different from everyone. Wings is a charming story that is near and dear to my heart, and I would use it as an LC option. #LAE3414sp19

audrey.wilson In the story, the main character Tamisin grows wings! https://www.education.com/lesson-plan/life-cycle-of-a-butterfly/  This link is how to teach the life cycle of a butterfly. I thought this lesson plan to be appropriate with this book because it takes fantasy and then uses elements of the story into science.

audrey.wilson UDL strategy 4.1, vary the methods for response and navigation, Wings jumps around with who is telling the story, it also does not follow a linear timeline, because the book is not a typical story structure I would need to implement 4.1 to help my students. ESOL 1, teach questioning for clarification, also is necessary for this book.

melindamcmullen84 This book sounds like something my daughter would love and I love how you incorporated butterflies into this lesson. Perfect time for spring :) 6y

Kcallihan Audrey, this book sounds so so cute! I definitely want to add this to my future books to read. I think that using LC‘s is a very good idea for this book because since it is a “chapter book” I think it would help for the students to debrief in small groups! 6y
ally11301 This book sounds so cute and I would totally read it just by your description of it! I think the LC is a great idea and I absolutely love how you mentioned that the main character grows wings and how you attached a content area into your lesson plan! 6y
