I‘m not really sure how I feel about this book, the characters or the series to be honest.
It may not be for everyone but it is a complex, intricate and intelligent story.

Finished the trilogy.
Definitely not my favorite Hobb series butt I am glad I finished it, as I found this last book the best of the series. I'd give this one 3.5/5.
EDIT:
As for the quote, I should've verified but apparently it was not Hemingway. I can't seem to find a specific origin for the quote, although it does seem to be a summary of a Leonard Cohen song lyric.
Sorry for any confusion my being hasty may have caused.
Sadly I could not finish this book, last of the series. The serie never really gripped me but it was just good enough for me to keep reading... until it wasn't. I skimmed over most of the seccond book and 300 pages into book three I gave up. The characters are one dimensiomal and unimaginative. This one was a swing and miss for Hobb, who is one of my favourite fantasy writers. I might pick it up later just to see how it ends.
Reading after a long day at work, does it get any better? The book could be better tbh, not loving this series unfortunately, Robin Hobb can do so much better, love her other work!

Oh, Robin Hobb, you broke my confidence in your writing skills with this series.
