Skylight Confessions
Skylight Confessions: A Novel | Alice Hoffman
3 posts | 14 read | 9 to read
Writing at the height of her powers, Alice Hoffman conjures three generations of a family haunted by love. Cool, practical, and deliberate, John is dreamy Arlyn's polar opposite. Yet the two are drawn powerfully together even when it is clear they are bound to bring each other grief. Their difficult marriage leads them and their children to a house made of glass in theConnecticut countryside, to the avenues of Manhattan, and to the blue waters of Long Island Sound. Glass breaks, love hurts, and families make their own rules. Ultimately, it falls to their grandson, Will, to solve the emotional puzzle of his family and of his own identity.

Married couple John and Arlyn are polar opposites. They inherit a house made of glass in the Connecticut countryside and begin a family. This multigenerational story is another work of art from Hoffman ❤️. It is impossible not to be engaged in these rich characters and hope for their redemption.

Another great Hoffman story. Terribly flawed characters struggling to cope with each other and their circumstances. And as always with Hoffman there is some magical realism. Also the title of this book baffles me. The story deserved better.

B.Reader Have you read On Beauty yet? I am dying to read it but it keeps getting bumped down my tbr. 8y
valeriegeary @B.Reader Not yet. It's one I started reading, but set aside. I was having trouble connecting with it. I only got about 20 pgs in and I've heard good things about it so I keep it on my shelf in case the spirit someday moves me to pick it up again. 😄 8y
