This is a very confusing and disturbing attempt at an alien story for middle grade readers. The main character is writing a fantasy novel so there are bits of fantasy within a realistic feeling story.

Middle-grades novel about a bullied biracial boy from a military family who is fascinated by alien-abduction stories then has an abduction experience himself. I found the resolution abrupt and too optimistic, but also much to like: creepy imagery, ambiguity about the boy's mental state, and the support he finds from a small circle of friends.
I'm looking forward to meeting the author at my employer's Children's Literature Festival this spring.
I have really mixed feelings about this book... I really liked the main storyline, the author had some great ideas. But there was this whole story within a story that I felt was unnecessary- I wish the author had used those pages to develop the main plot a little more.
Well, if that‘s not the most relatable thing I‘ve ever read in a middle grade novel...
