Mehso-so

There was a lot to love in this fantasy steampunk historical retelling, however there is some racism toward the "natives" that makes me uncomfortable. Additionally, the main character dresses as a "native" at one point and paints her face darker. This makes what would have been a "pick" into a "so-so". (Cont. ⬇️)

CoffeeK8 Kit is a detective who doesn't believe in magic. She is hired by Lady Diana who is being magically abused in her home to find the culprit. Along the way she gets pulled into a much deeper and darker mystery and must help her nemesis/love interest solve the mystery. 4y

Pickpick

This had so many of the things I love. Alternate history, this Victorian feel, steampunk technology, and magic! I liked the characters. I liked the ghostiness of it. I was all for it but then she threw in a time travel twist and that kind of made me go meh. If it plays a bigger part in the sequel then I‘ll probably change my opinion but if this is the only true mention of it then I could have done without that part.
