Trust Your Eyes | Linwood Barclay

What would you do if you witnessed a murder - but no one believed you . . .? Another masterful suspense novel from the bestselling author of the Richard & Judy summer read winner, NO TIME FOR GOODBYE Map-obsessed Thomas spends his days and nights on a virtual tour of the world through his computer screen, believing he must store the details of every town and city in his head. Then one day, while surfing a street view program, he sees something that shouldn't be there: a woman being murdered behind a window on a New York street. When Thomas tells his brother Ray what he has witnessed, Ray humours him with a half-hearted investigation - until he realises Thomas may have stumbled onto a deadly conspiracy, which puts them both in danger . . . With enough suspense to rival a Hitchcock film, this is a thriller with edge.

Always enjoy a Barclay; romping speed, exciting plots and clever twists. It deals with some very serious and heavy sub plots that are carefully handled and the antagonist characters had a believability and richness that made their crimes more realistic. The general idea of discovering a crime via a Google Earth style app was incredibly clever.

Difficult to rate if I‘m honest. I loved it, for me it was great entertainment but I think there are some issues if you review it objectively.

The showdown was – well, don‘t know, for me it did destroy the overall impression a bit. But okay.

But the one thing you can very much have different opinions on, is the way Thomas‘ schizophrenia is described and dealt with. I was willing to accept everything as presented but other people might not.

Started this audiobook yesterday. So far I like it. I‘m about 2 hours in – of 9, I think – and until now the crime the schizophrenic shall see according to the blurb has not yet happened but that doesn‘t bother me because I like the relationship between the 2 brothers – and just have a bit of a crush on that childhood-friend, Julie …

Thomas is schizophrenic and obsessed with a Google Earth-type program. He spends his days memorizing streets and stumbles across what appears to be a murder. In alternating timelines, we see Thomas and his brother trying to figure out what he found while also learning the real story. This is my 4th or 5th by Barclay and I just love his thrillers. Propulsive, creative, interesting, and unputdownable.

The August book for my Senior Center Book Club. I've been wanting to read this author so I'm looking forward to it - great-sounding plot.

Fast paced story that reminds you of The Rear Window. Interesting twists! Hated the finale, but it was perfect

First time reading this author and so glad I did! Suspenseful, deep mystery of murder, corruption, and family secrets. A man with mental health issues spends his time traveling the world on his computer with Whirl360 (aka Google maps) and is insistent he found an image of a murder taking place.

Little over 200 pages into this and it's better than I expected. Little slower than I would like but it's definitely interesting.

Linwood Barclay is another one of my all time favourite authors.. All of his books are amazingly awesome.. Again, I will add each review here at some point.. 😋

Andrew65 Linwood Barclay and Harlan Coben are great mystery writers, amongst my favourites. 7y
