The Prize
The Prize: The Epic Quest for Oil, Money & Power | Daniel Yergin
3 posts | 6 read | 1 reading | 4 to read
The Prize recounts the panoramic history of oil -- and the struggle for wealth power that has always surrounded oil. This struggle has shaken the world economy, dictated the outcome of wars, and transformed the destiny of men and nations. The Prize is as much a history of the twentieth century as of the oil industry itself. The canvas of this history is enormous -- from the drilling of the first well in Pennsylvania through two great world wars to the Iraqi invasion of Kuwait and Operation Desert Storm. The cast extends from wildcatters and rogues to oil tycoons, and from Winston Churchill and Ibn Saud to George Bush and Saddam Hussein. The definitive work on the subject of oil and a major contribution to understanding our century, The Prize is a book of extraordinary breadth, riveting excitement -- and great importance.

My husband is not much of a reader, perhaps ten books a year, always non fiction. He has realised the pitfalls of Amazon, he didn‘t expect this to be such a chunkster 😂(The Vory, next to it is a standard size paperback), it should keep him busy for a while.

Powered_By_Plants Wow! Hope he has a strong reading hand 💪🏻 😂 4y

Here‘s my prize from the summer library program. My hubs is dying bc I must have 200 bags ( ok maybe 30) but he‘s always trying to stem accumulation of bags. 😂😂😂

Mitch Love it! Ps.... number of totes one person needs is n+1, where n= the number of totes you already own! 😅 6y
Zelma Regardless of whether you have too many totes (is that possible?), that one is awesome and a keeper! 6y
Samplergal @Mitch Oh I like how you think! Hubs isn‘t convinced. I still need to email you about London. I‘m there October 3-9. 6y

Mitch @Samplergal exciting - I‘m around during that period 👋🏼 6y
Samplergal @Mitch I‘ll email you! I‘d love to meet you! 6y
BucklingBookshelves I won one of the raffles for summer reading which was a bunch of ARCs of upcoming books... went to pick them up and realized they came in a tote bag I really didn‘t need 🤣 6y
TNbookworm You can never have too many totes or books😊 6y
SleepyDragon Everyone who signs up for our SRP gets a free bag. Now that the twins are old enough, that means I come home from registration with 4 bags every summer. Lol They aren't as nice as this canvas one, though, and one usually disappears into the abyss that is my oldest son's room. My husband doesn't mind, though, because they are decent for shopping and our state passed a plastic bag law. 6y
