Things get even more strange this issue. I wonder how one would describe this series? "Steampunk inter-species war and genocide for magic life giving abilities with talking animals and deco-punk architectural elements. Oh and there's a monster, too." It's impossible to pin this series down and that is a large part of its appeal. This was one of my favorite comics of 2016 and it probably will be this year, too.

If you're not reading Monstress, you should! This is such a brilliant series! So imaginative, so engulfing, so damn beautiful. Issue 6 just continues the epic tale Marjorie & Sana are taking us on. We learn so much more in this issue about Maika & her past & what she's ultimately searching for. This first 6 issues are now available in trade so run to your bookstores/comic bookstores!

Again, each installment of this series is full of detailed design and art. The story is masterful. And one thing I particularly love is the strength of the female characters. Whether good or evil, they are incredibly fierce. Even our little fox arcanic Kippa is willing to risk her life for loyalty and friendship! That's how we wrap up this arc? As with the past few issues, I feel like I'm missing something. The art is gorgeous and the plot could be great, if he storyline were stronger. It this were a picture book 5⭐️s no doubt, but if you're actually trying to develop a series, I need more meat and potatoes than just awesome artwork. #24in48

Fantastic. Do not make me wait too long for volume two. This story is so deep and involved I will probably have to reread volume one before I pick up two.

I've followed Marjorie Liu through her Black Widow run (amazing), her X-23 run (sadly overlooked), & her nyx run (good) but her current run on Monstress with Sana Takeda is just shockingly good.
