3,096 Days | Natascha Kampusch, Heike Gronemeier, Corinna Milborn
13 posts | 23 read | 21 to read
On 2 March 1998 ten-year-old Natascha Kampusch was snatched off the street by a stranger and bundled into a white van. Hours later she found herself in a dark cellar. When she emerged eight years later, her childhood had gone. In 3,096 Days Natascha tells her incredible story for the first time: her difficult childhood, what exactly happened on the day of her abduction, her imprisonment and the mental and physical abuse she suffered from her abductor, Wolfgang Priklopil. 3,096 Days is a story about the triumph of the human spirit and how, against inconceivable odds, Natascha managed to escape unbroken.

For those who are squeamish about sex/rape, she leaves this out; it doesn‘t actually sound like there was a lot of that, anyway. There is plenty of physical abuse, though.

LibraryCin It is a translation, so there is the occasional awkward phrase or sentence, but I was certainly interested in her story. I think it gave a really good insight into how dependent she was on her kidnapper, especially since she was with him during those formative years between the ages of 10 and 18, and why she might have mixed feelings towards him. LibraryCin I feel so badly that she was not always treated well after she escaped due to those mixed feelings towards her former captor. However, as with many true crime stories I read, I had to look up more information online to find out how she‘s been doing since the book was published 6y

Kampusch's story (not only her book but also interviews etc.) is always a good reminder to pull myself together if I'm being whiny or drowning in self-pity.I mean, she doesn't only have to deal with the memories of her captivity but also people wanting her to fit their categories of being a victim and nut job conspiracy-theorists, among other things. 🙈Reading this was a very humbling and inspiring experience. #photoadaynov16 #inspiring #memoirs

I don't read a lot of non-fiction (not counting the secondary literature I need for work), but when it comes to #scarynonfiction I would choose this memoir by Natascha Kampusch. Her story really touched me and I remember sitting glued to the telly when she fled 10 years ago and the first reports came in on the news. #AllHallowsRead

Faibka I saw her story some time ago. Truly horrific 8y
