Two weeks ago I lost my reading buddy and best friend. Brian was a sweet gentle loving kitty and I still can‘t believe he‘s gone. I will forever treasure all the moments we shared and reading time will never be the same without him on my lap purring softly. Feeling a bit lost, I miss my sweet boy so much. It takes courage to love, knowing that some day you will lose it... love you always sweet angel 💕

Much ADO about Nothing | William Shakespeare

I‘ve always wondered what Beatrice meant, if she just meant that she was disdainful of romantic love in general as she did also say she wouldn‘t run mad with love “till a hot January”. I also tend to think that perhaps hearing pretty words with no action to back them up is as useful and meaningful as some other odd noise. What do you think?
@GingerAntics any thoughts? :)

GingerAntics I‘m with her on this. Put up or shut up, I say. It may be a disdain of romantic love, but I lean more toward the empty words with no action to back it up, it might as well be my dog barking or any other random sound. 3y
Faibka @GingerAntics yes, definitely my thinking, glad we‘re on the same page ;) just like that nice little poem that Hamlet wrote to Ophelia and yet his erratic behavior propelled her into madness, so much for pretty words! Lol 3y
GingerAntics @Faibka 🤣😂🤣 I do have a theory on Hamlet (several, in fact), but yeah, they ended up being empty words, possibly for her protection, but that backfired very badly, obviously. 3y
See All 6 Comments
Faibka @GingerAntics well, considering pretty much everything else he conjured up ended badly 🤦🏻‍♀️ Lol I blame his father‘s ghost (or his own hallucination..?) 3y
GingerAntics @Faibka right? How you answer that question (is it his father‘s ghost or is it an hallucination?) informs so much of the rest of the play. His father‘s ghost causes so many problems, but at the same time, his father wouldn‘t be a ghost if not for Claudius, so I blame him. He screwed everything up for everyone, including himself. 3y

The Buddha said this: “The object of your practice should first of all be yourself. Your love for the other, your ability to love another person, depends on your ability to love yourself.” If you are not able to take care of yourself, if you are not able to accept yourself, how could you accept another person and how could you love him or her? So it is necessary to come back to yourself in order to be able to achieve the transformation.

GingerAntics I quite enjoyed today‘s entry. I never knew that at that time England celebrated the new year in March. 3y
Faibka @GingerAntics I know! I was very surprised. I love learning this kind of tid bits of information :) this is a really cool book! It also dawned on me how appropriate to have named January after Janus since it is the month when you start the new year and look forward while also reflecting back on the previous year, very neat. I‘m starting to really like my daily dose of knowledge and look forward to learning something everyday! Today‘s topic was literature, yesterday it was history and got to learn a bit more about Hammurabi‘s code of Law, which I found fascinating! A great way to learn and get interested in finding out more on the subjects that appeal to you the most.

batsy This sounds really interesting! 3y
Faibka @batsy it is! I‘m really liking this book if you want to check it out, each day of the week explores a topic on seven different subjects. Tomorrow‘s theme is Visual Arts, so I‘m curious what topic it will cover 😃 It‘s a good way to start the day I think 😊 3y
batsy Yes, it does sound like a good thing to do daily. I will probably give it a go (though will have to catch up :) 3y
Faibka @batsy great! :) I think the format allows you to start wherever you want or in the day you happen to start it, it just follows each week of the year, I might have started it wrong because I just noticed I‘m already in week 2 lol! 3y

It‘s interesting how the character equates food and love in the sense that you can get so much of it to reach to point of saturation. It reminded me of the Twilight Zone episode “The Chaser” in which it is shown what happens when incessant love and attention is showered upon someone who initially desired it (be careful what you wish for!)

Pickpick

For someone totally new to Smith, this was a nice introduction into his way of thinking although it seemed to me that the author was frequently pushing his own ideas and beliefs, especially about religion (he admitted himself that Smith scarcely mentions it in his works). The book consists of direct quotations from Smith which are explored and expanded upon by the author. It really made me curious to read Smith‘s works.

This is an interesting one, you get to learn a bit of information each day for a whole year on seven different subjects: History, Literature, Visual Arts, Science, Music, Philosophy and Religion, divided by the days of the week: Monday for History, Tuesday for Literature, and so on. All written by experts in that particular field. Might just embark on this journey of knowledge!
