pickLoved this novel set in Savannah, Georgia immediately after WWII. The protagonist is Jewish concentration camp survivor coming to the US to live with relatives. This beautifully written novel addresses survivorship and racial prejudice even after the war and is, ultimately, a hopeful and important book. Looking forward to hearing the author at this year‘s Decatur Book Festival next weekend!!! #DBF2018
pickI don't do Holocaust. Too painful. But although Among the Living is a tale of survivors it is so much more. Set in immediate post-war Savannah, this novel traces the journey of one man from the camps in Europe to the embrace of family in Georgia. Along the way life intervenes as it always does. The writing is spare and eloquent with knowing nuggets of insight that just stopped me in my tracks. An affirmation of humanity. Very highly recommended.

pickAt times this felt like a fight between 2 different books – 1 a slow and thoughtful character read and 1 an action oriented good guys / bad guys book and the disconnect was jarring but still this was an enjoyable and thought provoking read

Quick minute to say that the finished books have arrived for AMONG THE LIVING by Jonathan Rabb (Oct 4). This book is a haunting portrayal of a Jewish man who survived the Holocaust and moves to Savannah, GA, experiencing the Jim Crow south of the late 1940s.
