How would history have turned out differently if the Black Death had wiped out 99% of the population of Europe rather than a third?
I can recognise that this is something of a tour de force, but after 170-odd pages I have to say it's not for me. DNF

Monkey never dies. He keeps coming back to help us in times of trouble, just as he helped Tripitaka through the dangers of the first journey to the west, to bring Buddhism back from India to China.

This book was in my tbr mountain for over a decade but I'm glad I read it at this moment.
I liked this well enough but I don‘t think it delivered on its amazing premise, ie what if even more of the population of Europe had succumbed to the Black Death, leaving Christians a tiny minority and leading to the dominance of Islam and the Chinese? Some parts were heavy-handed and others dragged.
Got a couple hours of reading in between work and my swim session.
I like this book but it‘s taking forever to read.
Updated #tbr till the end of this year. Currently reading two of them.
This is a scene in which the Chinese discover the Americas. But dandelions are a non-native species introduced by Europeans, so they shouldn‘t be here at all yet!
Not a major issue, obviously, but this really jumped out at me.
(If there are native plants called dandelions that are different from the introduced ones, please jump in and correct me!)
Does The Baroque Cycle count as alternate history? If not, this is my first alternate history novel in seven plus years, since I read The Difference Engine. Very excited to dig into this one.
Coffeeshop breakfast. Caffeinating and starting my next book club pick before heading off to a service on Buddhist principles at the local UU church. Thanks for the opportunity to win, @ju.ca.no ! #drinksandbooks #giveaway
