Girl in Dior | Annie Goetzinger
12 posts | 13 read | 21 to read
In February of 1947, the crme de la crme of Paris haute couture have flocked to see Christian Dior's debut fashion show. In a flurry of corolla shaped skirts, the parade of models file down the runway and the mesmerized audience declares the show a triumph. When Claraa freshly hired chronicler and guide to the busy corridors of the brand-new fashion houseis hand-picked by Dior to be a model, she knows her life will never be the same. A biography docudrama that marries fiction with the story of one of the greatest couturiers in history, this work is a breathless and stunning presentation of Christian Dior's greatest designs, beautifully rendered by bestselling artist Annie Goetzinger.

I had mixed feelings about this book. It's an interesting and beautifully illustrated historic fiction graphic novel. If you're into fashion history, you'll probably want to give this one a read. I didn't love that the book didn't come with any kind of introduction to help orient the readers to the historic setting or characters, so I had to Google whether the main character was a real person (she wasn't).

This was a sweet story about a girl who was discovered by Christian Dior and hand-picked to be one of his models. The storyline was lackluster and not much happened, but the artwork was beautiful!

It‘s a pick for me, and here‘s why:
1. I love fashion and books about fashion
2. I enjoy the graphic novel format
3. There are lists and quotes at the end that are fascinating

It‘s not going to be everyone‘s cup of tea and here‘s why:
1. Weak storyline
2. Fictional character
3. Not really about the girl or about Dior

This is a pleasant trifle for those who love high fashion.

A cute graphic novel about a girl who modelled for Christian Dior. Loved the illustrations, and the colours. And I'm definitely going to recommend to some of my fashion loving friends.

Eggs The artwork !!! 7y

Read it just for the gorgeous pictures, as the story doesn't have much heft. This is essentially an exceedingly brief biography of Christian Dior set during the early days of his studio as told through the eyes of a fictional character who becomes one of his models. The dialogue is stilted, the shifts between scenes anrupt, but oh - the gorgeous drawings of the dresses was enough to keep me engaged.

As I walked over to our reference desk, I spotted this book. It's a fast read but if you have any interest in fashion, do yourself a favor and take a look! It's a brief look at the House of Dior told through the eyes of a fictional woman.

If you want to look at pictures of beautiful dresses by all means check this out. However, there seemed to be almost no character development. I love how graphic novels can use words and pictures to deepen a story, but in this case I fear there wasn't enough story to match the pictures.
