I actually enjoyed reading this book for the most part, but some of the parts felt a little icky and uncomfortable (I‘m guessing that‘s the point, though) loved the lyrical writing and this beautiful 25th anniversary edition with gold foil roses on the cover!

Between a pick and a so-so for me, I decided to give it a pick since I read it in less than 24 hours to try and figure out who the guilty one was! I will say there are plenty of twists, but none of the characters were truly likable and it was a far-fetched, unrealistic story. Still very entertaining and perfect read for October

Got this book so I can read it before watching the show, and wow! Considering how busy I‘ve been lately, I didn‘t think I‘d have much time to read - where there‘s a will, there‘s a way! Intense story about a toxic relationship, battles with mental health, and even a twist snuck in there. Can‘t wait to watch the show now!

Someone recommended this book to me since I loved Big Little Lies so much, and I‘m glad I read it! I loved the writing and characters, some parts even made me laugh out loud. The mystery was enough to keep me interested throughout the whole story. The only thing is I will say that when the mystery was revealed/solved, I was a little underwhelmed (at least for one of them - because there are several!) Overall this was a great read

While I enjoyed the premise and idea of this book, it was unfortunately so drawn out. There was really no reason this book couldn‘t have been 250 pages instead of the 433 pages, which is the reason I‘m giving it a so-so instead of a thumbs up. The writing was very clever, and I particularly loved the use of footnotes throughout the story.

I agree with what seems to be the general consensus for this book: interesting concept, but poorly executed. Took me a little longer to read because I‘ve had too much going on lately, which may have contributed to the lackluster feeling. Maybe if I read it all at once (or at least within a week), it would have held my interest better

Sweet story about a man and a woman who share a flat, but he only stays there during days while she stays there on nights and weekends (due to work schedules). It was a cute, romantic story.. but it seems I‘m one of the outliers who thought it was a little dull at times and dragged on. Still enjoyed it though!

Reading the reviews, I started this thinking I would pan or bail. Reading the 1st half, I was pleasantly surprised! The characters were funny and I couldn‘t wait to keep going, but things took a turn in the 2nd half. The MC started getting annoying and the things she argued about were so childish and didn‘t make much sense. I had to push myself to get through the rest of the book, but gave it 3 stars because I genuinely liked it at the start.

Somewhere between a pick and a so-so for me. The story was excellent, a perfect mix between heart-breaking and romantic. Like others wrote, some of the writing was uncomfortable and unnecessary (in my opinion). Also, some parts of the book felt rushed while others dragged out. Really cute story and an easy read! There were 2 main reasons this didn‘t get a full “thumbs up” from me: 1. The point of view changed often and it was a little confusing to follow the characters 2. It was VERY slow. This probably could have been told in 300 pages or less to be honest. Still a fun read though!

Sweet and entertaining love story about soap opera stars navigating a new show, tabloid drama, and romance. Loved the writing, characters, and Latinx representation. The storyline was a little cheesy and certain minor confrontations were dragged out a little too far. Other than that, it was a fun read!

I went into this thinking it was going to be a light rom-com (based on the book summary) but boy was I wrong! It was definitely more of an emotional story about friendship, rather than an unrequited love as the tag line suggests. Still a great story, looking forward to reading more by the author 💛

TheAromaofBooks I've only read one book by this author & it was the same way - I was expecting a fluffy romcom, but ended up with something a lot more serious. It was still a good book, but I wish books were promoted more honestly. I don't think I liked the book as much as I could have, because it wasn't what I was in the mood for when I picked it up, if that makes sense. 1y
samantharoberts @TheAromaofBooks exactly!!! I was in the mood to read something else, and feel like I got a little duped, which almost made me DNF until I was more in the mood for this type of story. It was still a good book, just wish the blurb and tag line were more honest 1y
TheAromaofBooks I just don't understand why publishers (or whoever it is who does covers/blurbs) thinks it's a good idea to give readers the wrong impression about a book?? I'm much more likely to dislike/give a lower rating to a book that isn't what I'm expecting, just because I was in the mood for something other than what I got. It's like handing me pizza when I was ready for ice cream... still good, but not what I was ready to eat?? 😂 1y
samantharoberts @TheAromaofBooks YES! I completely agree and love that analogy! It‘s so true 1y

This series of novellas is perfect for October reading! It‘s a dark retelling of the Wizard of Oz stories, where everything we know from the classic isn‘t what it seems. I feel like most of my reads lately have just missed the mark. Maybe I‘m being too picky or maybe it‘s time to switch genres for a little. This was a really cute + funny story. I loved the characters, though sometimes the written lines were a bit annoying. They probably would have read better as an audiobook or on television. It was also WAY too long and drawn out. I found myself just waiting for something interesting to happen a little too often

There were a couple of cute and funny parts, but honestly most of it was just so far-fetched and cringey. There was too much love-to-hate-to-love over and over again, even when it didn‘t make any sense to start hating each other again. The handful of fun parts saved this from being a complete bail or DNF for me

Spent a good part of this beautiful day finishing this book ☀️ maybe it‘s because I‘ve always loved the all the glamour and glitter of the New York high society in the 1950s, but this historical fiction about Truman Capote and Babe Paley‘s friendship was enjoyable to read. It does get a little campy at times, but overall i thought it was fun!

marleed I loved reading this book. I went down a Babe Paley online rabbit hole piecing things together and the realizing she was essentially the mother-in-law to Charlie Rose. Fascinating that anyone in this world survived to 50 with all those cigarettes! 1y
samantharoberts @marleed really?! I didn‘t know that! I started researching into Babe and Truman too 😅 seriously! it seems like they would smoke nonstop every single day 1y
marleed @samanthagutt I believe it is her daughter that was the longtime love of Charlie Rose which is super interesting because of Charlie‘s CBS connection and then Babe‘s 2nd husband basically invented CBS. I would love to see a documentary or read a NF where Babe is the main character. 1y

I started out really not liking this book. The dialogue felt equivalent to “bad acting” in written form. ~50 pages in I started to enjoy it & couldn‘t put it down. Towards the end it started getting really cheesy again. The story was predictable (I figured out the ending really early on), a little cringey, and unrealistic. But the middle portion of the story saved this book from being a “pan” for me! ☺️
