The elegant, enthralling action manga that became the hit anime! Find out why readers have flocked to this "gorgeous, absorbing, surprisingly emotionally resonant" masterpiece!SEARCHING FOR PURPOSE In a world inhabited by crystalline lifeforms called The Lustrous, every unique gem must fight for their way of life against the threat of lunarians who would turn them into decorations. Phosphophyllite, the most fragile and brittle of gems, longs to join the battle. When Phos is instead assigned to complete a natural history of their world, it sounds like a dull and pointless task. But this new job brings Phos into contact with Cinnabar, a gem forced to live in isolation. Can Phos's seemingly mundane assignment lead both Phos and Cinnabar to the fulfillment they desire?

I read a lot of positive things about this unique anime full of crystal beings fighting entities from their moon, so I thought I‘d give the manga a try. I didn‘t care for it, unfortunately! I liked the concept and what I made out of the story, but It was extremely difficult to figure out what was happening in unclear illustrations, and I had trouble telling many of the characters apart. The fight scenes were the most unclear. #manga

Eyelit That‘s too bad! The art is lovely. 11mo
Kenyazero I also used this for all three Perrserker prompts (who I had to look up because I didn‘t remember its name 😆) for #GottaCatchEmAll. So I guess I caught that one as my first pokemon! @PuddleJumper 11mo
Kenyazero @Eyelit The art is nice, and I‘ll probably give vol. 2 and the anime a try just because the story was interesting despite the unclear panels. 11mo
PuddleJumper Wahoo! Amazing 11mo

Pickpick

I've been reading a lot of manga this summer. Probably my new favorite and the one I can't wait to read the next volume of is Land of the Lustrous by Haruko Ichikawa. It's a story about sentient immortal gem people who are constantly at war with strange ethereal beings that want to break the gems apart and turn them into weapons. It starts off light, but does get darker as it explores the very messy and harsh realities of change and growth.

2⭐️

I really like the concept of crystal people with special abilities and having to constantly fight off an enemy that wants to kidnap you was interesting but it never really held my attention that well. The story and art were all over the place and way too hard to follow along to make this enjoyable. Thought I would like this series but I don‘t see myself ever picking up volume 2.

This is volume two. Still unsure how I feel-the concept is interesting and this particular volume took some turns I wasn‘t expecting which made it enjoyable. But the series is still pretty middle of the road for me. I wish this was done in color because the gems are very hard to tell apart in look and personality. Overall 3-ish stars? We‘ll go with that.

This manga has a unique and interesting premise, but something was missing for me. It was difficult to tell what was happening at times, particularly during the battle scenes and it was also difficult for me to tell the characters apart from one another. Maybe I'll have better luck with the anime. 🤷🏻‍♀️
