Just Peachy: Comics About Depression, Anxiety, Love, and Finding the Humor in Being Sad | Holly Chisholm
5 posts | 8 read | 4 to read
Adventures in Dealing with Everyday Struggles, Getting Help, and Doing Just Okay Sometimes Just Peachy is a comic series that explores what the day-to-day is like with depression and/or anxiety. The all-too-real cartoon protagonist gives readers a character to empathize with, and helps explain some of the not often talked about consequences and symptoms of having depression. The comics also explore the themes of heartbreak, finding love, dealing with stress, and capturing the magical moments in life that keep us going. Through dark humor and cute illustrations, the subject matter becomes a bit more bearable, allowing for honest discussion about things like treatment and getting through anxiety attacks, and providing some comfort in times of struggle. For anyone affected by mental illness, Just Peachy shows that you are not alone. Simply put, this is an encouraging collection of comics about being just okay sometimes.

This is a little book about #depression and #anxiety from an artist who lives with both. It‘s funny and sad and comforting and true. Knowing we‘re not alone helps.

I love that she thanks her psychiatrist & therapist. Sometimes, in the midst of my own depression, anxiety, or stress, I forget about the impact I (as a therapist) have on my clients. & it's always those times when my clients unknowingly remind me about my impact! It's nice to see things like this to know that people value the work we do more publicly & hopefully it helps break down stigma. 😊

I'm scared of routine.

I don't want to be boring.

But then I see a sunset, which comes every day but somehow always seems new and full of hope.
