La sapiente e irresistibile miscela di satira di costume e romanzo giallo imperniato su una scoppiettante polifonia dialettale di gaddiana memoria (il Pasticciaccio sta sullo sfondo segreto della scena come un nume tutelare) la piccola folla multiculturale che anima le vicende di uno stabile a piazza Vittorio sorprende per la verità e la precisione dell’analisi antropologica il brio e l’apparente leggerezza del racconto. A partire dall’omicidio di un losco personaggio soprannominato “il Gladiatore” si snoda un’indagine che ci consente di penetrare nell’universo del più multietnico dei quartieri di Roma: piazza Vittorio.

Not quite sure what to make of this book. It fits into a genre of Italian literature in which comedy, satire and in this case, murder mystery are used to illustrate deeper social issues. I liked the construction of the novel where we first hear from a character, then followed by the accused‘s journal entries of his interactions with that person. The mystery component was…meh, but the theme of racism in Italy was fascinating. #europacollective

Rereading this book for the Italian Book Club I organized on #Duolingo - it‘s turning out to be a good pick! It‘s fun, but still very relevant, with lots of interesting things to talk about. Lakhous does a great job creating his characters.
