The Strange Tales of Brennan and Riz
The Strange Tales of Brennan and Riz | Peter James Martin
4 posts | 1 read
No courier job too small, no pest control problem too big. Strange goings on? Customers getting spooked? Paranormal crime gone unsolved? You need Brennan and Riz on the case.
Ever wonder what Fae creatures, ghosts and goblins inhabit our abandoned buildings, riversides and hills, even lurking in the tunnels beneath our high streets? They’re not all troublesome and most jobs pay well… but for paranormal detective and other-worldly trouble-shooter Brennan and his best friend Riz, a talking rat with a penchant for Rune magic, a greater, darker danger is never far behind.
Based on real folklore and real locations, combined with witty characters and a dry dynamic between Brennan and Riz, this first collection of short stories from Peter James Martin is packed with the familiar and the unusual.

I enjoyed this overall. Could have done with some more editing, but I liked the characters and the use of local folklore. The short story collection format did suit it, but it also felt like some important stories were left out - I don‘t mind Brennan only having a vague idea of what Riz is, but can we get a little more on how they met and why they‘ve stuck together? Little mysteries like that.

I‘m trying to make a point of going to a park to read, so here I am again.

Another one down, next up an urban fantasy collection by a local author, for my ‘English Author‘ prompt. #magicalreadingchallenge #newts2019 #tbr

New book just arrived. I wasn‘t supposed to be buying any this month, but it‘s by a local author so I weakened. (I can resist everything except temptation). #bookmail #toread
