First time reading a nonfiction book that‘s written/feels like fiction. Archival historical research scavenger hunt to find a missing Caravaggio painting. Intrigued to see where it goes. I briefly remember reading about the painting years ago and can‘t recall the results.

The idea of lost masterpieces being discovered is intriguing so this kept my interest despite dragging in some places. The ending felt a bit abrupt. It was good but not great.

I joined audible this week and hoped to get some #audiostitching done today. However I'm babysitting my grandbaby so that's out of the question. Also? Nana is tired!

This nonfiction book recounts the relatively recent finding of a Caravaggio masterpiece that had been "lost" for over a century. Pros: info on Caravaggio's life and the details surrounding the actual events that led to the painting's identification. Con: the detours the author takes to describe the lives of some of the contemporary participants seemed gratuitous. Overall: pretty good, especially given the length and ease of read.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Loved this one for my museum book club! Admittedly, art history books can sometimes be a snooze. But I found this one thrilling and well written, interspersing the artist‘s bio with the amazing discovery process of a lost painting. #audiobooks #commuterlife

Someone is asked to clean and restore a painting he suspects is an authentic Caravaggio. Is it, or is it just another early copy? Fascinating account of how this mystery is solved and a glimpse into the academic side of the art world. Not too long either, so it can be a quick read.

They find a long-lost painting they suspect was by Caravaggio. Instead of telling the world, they have the idea of doing a "Caravaggisti show" to compare art done by followers of Caravaggio (aka Caravaggisti) to that of the discovered painting to try to conclude whether it's the real thing. ?

82° right now. Reading poolside (but not before doing a lot of work around it). Just beginning this book about a Caravaggio masterpiece that disappeared and the author's quest to find out what happened. I love art history so I hope I like this one!
