Demonglass: A Hex Hall Novel
Demonglass: A Hex Hall Novel | Rachel Hawkins
13 posts | 80 read | 9 to read
Sophie Mercer thought she was a witch. That was the whole reason she was sent to Hex Hall, a reform school for delinquent Prodigium (aka witches, shapeshifters, and fairies). But that was before she discovered the family secret, and that her hot crush, Archer Cross, is an agent for The Eye, a group bent on wiping Prodigium off the face of the earth.

Demonglass picks up right where Hex Hall ends. Sophie is now in London to learn more about her father and her past.

This book felt more mature than the last and most certainly darker. It comes to light that someone is raising demons which poses a problem in its own, but the Eye is also set on finding Sophie. We were introduced to some new characters and really got the chance to see characters we already knew expanded.

So good. Team Archer or Cal? I always seem to like the one the main character doesn't choose lol. So we will see what happens in the next one :)

Random thought, this is a rare series where a young magical person has parents who are alive. Not an orphan!

LauraBrook You're right! I never thought of that when I was reading this series, but yep, both parents are alive. Thanks for pointing that out! 8y

I decided to listen to the second book in the Hex Hall series in honor of #sequelseptember. This one was fun but I think I enjoyed the first book more. Taking a short break from the series before I pick up the 3rd installment.

If you have a kid (probably female or female-identified) who is maybe not all that gung ho about reading, this a nice choice because it combines a really compelling plot and a strong female protagonist with really smart, competent writing. (Also a good choice for that 54-year-old in your life who is a fan of YA fiction and witches). (Hypothetically.)
