Pickpick

I went the audiobook route. I really enjoy this historical series from Peter Ackroyd. He covers wars, economics, social change, culture (literature and art). It‘s comprehensive without being heavy. This one covered the 18th century through Waterloo. So lots of big events!!! 🇺🇸 🇫🇷 🇬🇧

This painting of George III, which is featured on the cover of Revolution, was painted by Scottish portrait painter Allan Ramsay. I was particularly happy to see this because Ramsay is mentioned in the excellent BBC 4 documentary "A Portrait of Scotland", presented by Peter Capaldi ?

Pickpick

This is a pick even though I haven't quite finished it (it had to go back to the library because there were holds on it). Ackroyd crams a lot of information into his books and this one is no exception. This is the 4th in his set of books chronicling the history of England, but this is one series you don't need to read in order 😉

Speaking as a Canadian, I always referred to this conflict as the Seven Years' War. To me, the French and Indian War refers to events from that period that happened in the US (or what is now the US).

rabbitprincess @rubyslippersreads Thackeray gets a mention in this book as well. Maybe I'll have to dig out Vanity Fair on Serial Reader soon! 😄 7y
