This was a very informative history of the human side of the Galapagos. Hickman integrates long quotations from various writers observations on the Galapagos - from pirates to poets. It was a bit gruesome to hear about the decimation of the tortoise population (while enjoying seeing what is left of them). This book provided me with helpful context for understanding where I am.

Just reading next to this sea lion. No big deal! They are everywhere in the Galapagos and not at all fussed by humans. I was snorkelling this morning and baby sea lions were swimming playfully around us.
