New York Times bestselling author Lauren Myracle offers a spine-tingling, unforgettable story of friendship gone very, very wrong. Lauren Myracle brings her keen understanding of teen dynamics to a hypnotic horror story of twisted friendship. When Blisss hippie parents leave the commune and dump her at the home of her aloof grandmother in a tony Atlanta neighborhood, its like being set down on an alien planet. The only guide naive Bliss has to her new environment is what shes seen on The Andy Griffith Show. But Mayberry is poor preparation for Crestview Academy, an elite school where the tensions of the present and the dark secrets of the past threaten to simmer into violence. Openhearted Bliss desperately wants new friends, making her the perfect prey of a troubled girl whose obsession with a long-ago death puts Bliss, and anyone shes kind to, in mortal danger. Lauren Myracle has taken the ubiquitous friendship novel to a new, dark place. F&P level: Z+

Y‘all, it‘s not good. There are concepts that could have been good...if they were fully developed and focused into two different books. It‘s hard to tell if this book is supposed to be YA horror or a commentary on racism. But either way, neither storyline was fully developed. Don‘t take the racism storyline and use it as a means to an end for your other poorly, partially developed horror storyline. Skip this one.

Ugh, this completely missed the mark with me. Not poorly written, but I think I was expecting something more in the vein of Prom Night/Carrie. Not even the Charles Manson quotes could make this spooky enough for me. Needed more commune and less prep school. Hats off to the author though for tacking issues of racism and civil rights in a YA horror novel.

Oh geez, my first pan on @Litsy! What a huge disappointment. I would have bailed, but I knew my girl, @Lizzyg4 , needed my commiseration. So much opportunity in this book and it was so wasted.
