The Cool Bean | Jory John

This book is very entertaining and easy to follow. I think that the message is really important and valuable to all ages, not just the younger grades. It shows that popularity doesn‘t matter and being mean is not “cool”, that it is important to be kind and can change someone‘s day or life.

This is a book about a group of “cool” beans that come into school. Another bean watched from a distance and thought they were so cool, and felt left out because he used to know them. He thought of himself as an “uncool” bean. One day he dropped his lunch and the cool beans helped him clean it up, and they helped when he fell and got hurt. It teaches kids to be kind to one another.

4 ⭐ The seed books are really good with puns and playing on common words and phrases. This time they take a jab at “cool beans”. This book is about the cool beans in school, and how one lonely bean feels left out. It is a great lesson in what actually makes someone cool. It‘s a bit long for story time, but would work well in a classroom setting.

The Cool Bean! 😎 This MF, RA book has a wonderful message that should be introduced to young students. The book is about a bean who wants to be cool like the “cool beans”. To the little beans surprise, the “cool beans” were actually really nice and helpful! They were kind to him when he needed it most! The overall theme of this book is not to judge someone based off how they look. In addition it is actually really ‘cool‘ to be kind to everyone.

acassatta The UDL principle 8.3- foster collaboration and community works well with this book. In class, students can collaborate together on kind things they could do for each other. Additionally, ESOL strategy #48- use Venn diagrams to compare and contrast could work well with the collaboration aspect this book holds. The following link takes you to a read aloud version of this book on YouTube... https://youtu.be/4jEgHfLW9d8 #ucflae3414sp21 3y
Chaseb I‘ve had this book on my wishlist for forever! I love the message in this book, about its “cool” to be kind to others. I really like that you included a read aloud for the book as your resource because ESOL students could access that to listen and try to read along with it! great job! 3y
PatriciaS Great review 👍 thanks, I put it on my list to read. The cover reminds me of The Bad Seed 3y
Spearsall I was not expecting this description after reading the cover of the book, interesting! I‘ve never quiet read a book like this one so I will for sure have to check it out. I love the ESOL strategy you chose because it can be used in so many ways in the classroom and could be aligned with a standard easily! 📚 3y
DrSpalding It is so cool to be kind! Your YouTube video is a helpful resource but remember that I want you modeling affective read aloud skills with your students. You have clearly shown that you can easily align universal design and English learner strategies appropriately. The graphic organizer to compare and contrast various aspects of this book would work well. 3y

This MF book about an uncool bean who misses his old friends the cool beans would be a great DR that your students could do to learn and compassion and friendship. https://youtu.be/mUllxW2Qy_4 this video shows how the illustrations of the beans are done. EL strategy provide contextual support through audio visuals, models, demonstrations, realia, body language, and facial expressions. UDL principle 1.2 offer alternatives for auditory information.

DrSpalding What a fun video! Children would enjoy this arts integration. Expand on the universal design and English learner strategies to show how they support the resources you have included. 4y

So "The Cool Bean" kinda snuck into the lineup, but it was a quick, adorable read. Great compliment to the "Bad Seed" series ?

Finished that along with two other books this past week and just as I had hoped, "Snug" was my Valentine's day read ??

Still making progress with the poetry anthology "Ink".

Up next: a more substantial review of "A Fire Story" and a new weekly forecast ?
