The cons get twistier and the stakes get higher in this second book of The Curse Workers trilogy: a sleek and stylish blend of urban fantasy and crime noir (Booklist).Curses and cons. Magic and the mob. In Cassel Sharpes world, they go together. Cassel always thought he was an ordinary guy, until he realized his memories were being manipulated by his brothers. Now he knows the truthhes the most powerful curse worker around. A touch of his hand can transform anythingor anyoneinto something else. After rescuing his brothers from Zacharovs retribution and finding out that Lila will never be his, Cassel is trying to reestablish some kind of normalcy in his life. That was never going to be easy for someone from a worker family tied to one of the big crime families, and a mother whose cons get more reckless by the day. But Cassel is also coming to terms with what it means to be a transformation worker and figuring out how to have friends. But normal doesnt last very longsoon Cassel is being courted by both sides of the law and is forced to confront his past. A past he remembers only in scattered fragments and one that could destroy his family and his future. Cassel will have to decide whose side he wants to be on because neutrality is not an option. And then he will have to pull off his biggest con ever to survive. Love is a curse and the con is the only answer in a game too dangerous to lose.

#LilithJuly Day 17: This book features #Criminal families and Curse Workers. Iphigene‘s review: “Holly Black was able to make this book less about the love triangle and more about the struggle of his protagonist. I wouldn‘t have enjoyed this book if Black‘s writing didn‘t have depth, but it does. She introduces enough internal and external tension to make it believable.” Her full review: https://wp.me/pDlzr-4pe

This is a great #YA fantasy for today's prompt #lies! Cassel's family are curse workers, and in this world, that also means they're mobsters. Pulled between the Feds and the mob, between what is true and what is lies, Cassel can't decide who he can trust, when he can't even trust himself. This is the second book in the series. White Cat is the first. I'll tag it below. #Maybookflowers

readinginthedark I started White Cat on audio a couple of years ago, but it skipped and I could never find another copy! I need to finish it! 8y
AmandaL @readinginthedark All my audiobooks are borrowed from the library, and it makes me crazy when that happens! I listened to this series on audio a few years ago and really enjoyed it. 8y

A fierce, intelligent, complex follow-up. The stakes get higher, the world grows larger, and Cassel more and more desperate to hold on to the humanity he's not even sure he has anymore. If only the romance wasn't so terribly hard to like! ★★★☆☆.
