Lucky Caller
Lucky Caller | Emma Mills
5 posts | 8 read | 8 to read
With the warmth, wit, intimate friendships, and heart-melting romance she brings to all her books, Emma Mills crafts a story about believing in yourself, owning your mistakes, and trusting in human connection in Lucky Caller. When Nina decides to take a radio broadcasting class her senior year, she expects it to be a walk in the park. Instead, its a complete disaster. The members of Nina's haphazardly formed radio team have approximately nothing in common. And to maximize the awkwardness her group includes Jamie, a childhood friend she'd hoped to basically avoid for the rest of her life. The show is a mess, internet rumors threaten to bring the wrath of two fandoms down on their heads, and to top it all off Nina's family is on the brink of some major upheaval. Everything feels like it's spiraling out of controlbut maybe control is overrated?

With the library closed due to the current lockdown... I‘ve been reading what I have (I probably wouldn‘t have gotten to this one otherwise) - this was just a VERY WHOLESOME READ and just what I felt like reading - so thank you past self for borrowing it in... April?

Two teens who were friends when they were kids end up on the same team for a radio class. My fav parts were the flashbacks to the games they used to play.

Made a bit of progress for #BackwardsAtoZ - I am doing these in order, so I am a bit stuck on No T at the moment!! Purple-y highlights are February's additions.

ravenlee Good Omens, most of Jane Austen‘s books, Jane Eyre, Bleak House, Anne of Green Gables, Greenglass House, Escape from Mr Lemoncello‘s Library... 5y
veritysalter Looking at my Agatha Christie shelf: Hickory Dickory Dock, Dead Man‘s Folly, Sad Cypress, Lord Edgware Dies for Poirot. Murder is Announced, Nemesis and Sleeping Murder for Miss Marple. 5y

This was a decent read but my least favorite of Mills' books. It almost felt like she had an idea but then rushed to finish it, because some of the concepts were really disjointed. The radio thing seemed like it could have been a lot more developed (especially the tie-in to the title) and the same for the side plot with Nina's sister and a few other things. A decent but not amazing read. Also a bit sad about the switch to a different cover format.

Andrew65 Thanks for tag, don‘t think I‘ve got Indiana yet. (edited) 5y
TheAromaofBooks @Andrew65 - sometimes those random midwest states can be hard to find haha Right now I am checking off lots of easy ones that I just happening to be reading rather than specifically looking for books to fit the challenge, but at some point I know I'm going to need help finding some of the Great Britain ones - I haven't come across a single set-in-Ireland book organically yet! 5y
Andrew65 @TheAromaofBooks That‘s the way I‘m doing it too at this stage. 5y
