The Early Diary of Anaïs Nin
The Early Diary of Anaïs Nin: 1923–1927 | Anaïs Nin
2 posts | 1 read | 6 to read
A revealing look at the life of this “extraordinary and unconventional writer” during the mid-1920s (The New York Times Book Review). In this volume of her earlier series of personal diaries, Anaïs Nin tells how she exorcised the obsession that threatened her marriage—and nearly drove her to suicide. “Through sheer nerve, confidence, and will, Nin made of the everyday something magical. This was a gift, indeed, and it’s a fascinating process to witness.” —The Christian Science Monitor With an editor’s note by Rupert Pole and a preface by Joaquin Nin-Culmell

🎵I got that burnin hot desire
And no one can put out my fire 🎵

Anaïs Nin's journals are a fascinating read about her desires & passions. It's easy to make fun of her I think but I enjoy the effect of reading her journals. She crafts them like novels; they're propulsive, absorbing & perhaps embellished, but that only makes it all the more interesting.

twohectobooks The only Anaïs Nin I‘ve read was her intro to Tropic of Cancer, which I have to admit didn‘t really win me over! 4y

JazzFeathers So interesting. So did she think she would publish them one day? Or was she practicing the art? 4y
batsy @twohectobooks Ah, OK 😆 I haven't read Tropic of Cancer! I kind of want to, but I'm also not sure! 4y
batsy @JazzFeathers I think she definitely had an eye for publication! Perhaps she gets some flak for considering herself the most interesting subject 😆 This is a good read https://www.theguardian.com/culture/2015/apr/07/anais-nin-author-social-media 4y
twohectobooks @batsy it‘s got beautiful parts amid a lot of nonsense and I‘m very impatient when it comes to that sort of thing. I believe she helped to edit it as well as writing the introduction, which I imagine was a monumental task! 4y
Centique That‘s such an interesting article! 4y
batsy @Centique I enjoyed it, too! Love reading about how writers construct themselves as a subject, whether in autofiction or diaries. 4y

#Rocktober Day 9: Ardent feminists and free-thinking women might have been called #bitch by Neanderthals who couldn‘t appreciate the power wielded by a woman who knows her mind.

Centique So true! 7y
Cinfhen Sadly, this notion is still true 😥 7y
