The Ruthless Elimination of Hurry
The Ruthless Elimination of Hurry: How to Stay Emotionally Healthy and Spiritually Alive in the Chaos of the Modern World | John Mark Comer
10 posts | 17 read | 3 reading | 9 to read
Who are you becoming? That was the question nagging pastor and author John Mark Comer. By outward metrics, everything appeared successful. But inwardly, things weren't pretty. So he turned to a trusted mentor for guidance and heard these words: "Ruthlessly eliminate hurry from your life. Hurry is the great enemy of the spiritual life." It wasn't the response he expected, but it continues to be the answer he needs. Too often we treat the symptoms of toxicity in our modern world instead of trying to pinpoint the cause. A growing number of voices are pointing at hurry, or busyness as a root of much evil. Within the pages of this book, you'll find a compelling emotional and spiritual case against hurry and in favor of a slower, simpler way of life.

'I'll sleep when I'm dead' is the mantra of a soul living in denial of God and outside the flow of eternity.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
This is a great book for helping you slow down in life, eliminating what's not important, and focusing on finding peaceful quality in your life regardless of where you're at. It helped me remind myself of not getting caught in the vortex of current culture.

5 stars: one of the best books I have ever read!
What an impactful read. It discusses a fairly emotional topic with logic, empathy, and practicality (it reminded me a bit of Gentle and Lowly for that reason). It's conviction and encouraging and honestly, validating - I'm not crazy for not wanting to live at a frantic pace like the rest of society!

It's mid December and this book perfectly set up my mentality to embrace a slower pace in the coming year. I'm setting calendar reminders to reread next fall as a check-in. I'm excited to be more intentional with my time and resources.

It was good. Thoughtful. Entertaining. I enjoyed it. I wouldn‘t say that it reinvented the wheel but that‘s the point. It calls back to a slower way of life that impossible to find without aim and attention.
