I Am C-3PO - The Inside Story
I Am C-3PO - The Inside Story: Foreword by J.J. Abrams | Anthony Daniels
6 posts | 5 read | 5 to read
"Gloriously witty, keen and spirited" J.J. Abrams, Director of Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker "The odds of me ever writing a book were approximately... Oh, never mind. My golden companion worries about such things - I don't. I have indeed now written a book - telling my story, in my voice, not his - recognising that our voices and our stories are inextricably intertwined." When Star Wars burst on to the big screen in 1977, an unfailingly polite golden droid called C-3PO captured imaginations around the globe. But C-3PO wasn't an amazing display of animatronics with a unique and unforgettable voiceover. Inside the metal costume was an actor named Anthony Daniels. In this deeply personal memoir, Anthony Daniels recounts his experiences of the epic cinematic adventure that has influenced pop culture for more than 40 years. For the very first time, he candidly describes his most intimate memories as the only actor to appear in every Star Wars film - from his first meeting with George Lucas to the final, emotional days on the set of Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker. With a foreword by J.J. Abrams and never-before-seen photography, this book is a nostalgic look back at the Skywalker saga as it comes to a close. I Am C-3PO: The Inside Story reveals Anthony Daniels' vulnerability, how he established his role and what he accomplished, and takes readers on a journey that just happens to start in a galaxy far, far away.

This was so sweet and the perfect feel-good read to combat news/politics/global pandemic fatigue. Daniels is a gem, and his love for Star Wars and especially his “friend” C-3PO shines through in every anecdote and behind-the-scenes detail. I loved everything about this, including when he opines about various types of merch (he‘s partial to the postage stamps and C-3PO Beanie Baby 😂❤️). Audiobook (which he narrates) highly recommended!

Reggie Lol, omg, we had a supervisor meeting for slots on Saturday and there were two people who were adamant that if we even sneezed we should stay home. Like, we have customers that when the fire alarm goes off don‘t leave machines unless they see other people go first, even though the message says: Fire, Fire, this is an emergency. Coronavirus, schmuhronavirus aint gonna stop these gamblers. Be well, Christine!😊 5y
Christine OMG, @Reggie ! People be crazy. Maybe you should just casually walk around spraying Lysol on everything/one...😂 You be well, too!! ❤️ 5y

Anthony Daniels's memoir of his time as C-3PO was brilliant. He gives an insider look into the making of the Skywalker saga not just related to C-3PO, but also the films' production in general. There are a lot of great little tidbits and trivia. He talks about the creation of Celebration, the 501st, art exhibits, and orchestral performances. I laughed out loud. I cried a good deal as he described the beauty of fandom and the magic of Star Wars.

I‘m not a Star Wars fan, but one of my close friends is a huge fan. I went with her to Cincinnati tonight to meet Anthony Daniels & get the new book signed. He didn‘t talk long because he has an early flight. It was the shortest book signing I‘ve been to, but he was really nice. I forgot to take a pic of him.
