Genuinely this book was a fun surprise jam packed with tons of heart. 3 reasons I loved it....
1. They got right down to business, seriously considering sex planner now.
2. The prevalence of girl gangs. I LOVE a good girl gang and this book has 2!
3. I laughed out loud.
I loved Johnny & Victoria together, they rocked the opposites-attract trope, supported each other, grew together, & had 🔥🔥🔥 sex.
Yall this book has it all.

On the whole, I got a kick out of this romance between an academic and a librarian. Reid excels at workplace scenes that really dig into the mechanics of each character‘s job. Victoria‘s position as an English professor who advocates for her students as she seeks tenure is especially well fleshed out. I loved those parts.
That said, I engaged less with the characters‘ relationship than with everything happening around it. ⬇️
The library tells me it‘s National Hot Chocolate Day, so I figure it‘s my sacred duty to drink a hot chocolate float while I finish HEARTS ON HOLD.
I‘m still enjoying the book, but at nearly 112,000 words it‘s long for a romance. There are a bunch of comma splices in the last 25%, too. Y‘all know I ain‘t a fan. Full stops and semicolons are our friends.
Pain day reading. I‘m about halfway through HEARTS ON HOLD now, and I‘m having a blast with it—except I think it might be one of those romances where I‘m invested in the characters as individuals, not as a couple. The parts about their jobs and their personal struggles keep me more engaged than their shared scenes.
I‘ve moved along to HEARTS ON HOLD, a romance about an academic and a librarian! I‘m really enjoying it so far, but I AM a little disappointed it‘s set in Illinois, not Wales like I originally thought. (The academic teaches at a place called Pembroke University, and I‘m 80% sure Reid‘s last book was set in the UK, so I didn‘t pull Wales out of the ether. The author herself currently lives in Sweden.)
Wahoo! I did it! I finished Hearts on Hold and that brought me to 194 books read this year. 🎉
I finished the Lisa Kleypas ARC (which was ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️), so now starting the book I originally planned on starting yesterday. Another ARC and by a new to me author. The hero is a children's librarian, so I couldn't resist. #romantsy #currentlyreading
