“For near on ten miles, the old woman walks without ceasing.”
#QuotsyFeb20 #sorrow
“You, though, you just keep hunkering down, waiting for the sorrow to stop, and I understand that. I do. But it‘ll never stop, not entirely. You know that. All hunkering down does is give sorrow a way to burrow in, carve a hollow in your heart. Go too deep, and sorrow is all that will ever fill it.”
Wise words. The MC & secondary characters in this historical mystery aeries have all lost loved ones & sorrow quietly echoes.
I enjoyed the 1st book in the Kinship series but liked this one even more. Great characters & mystery. Set in 1926 rural Ohio, Lily Ross is still sheriff but facing re-election & investigating an elderly woman‘s suspicious death. Among other things I learned about the Women‘s Ku Klux Klan (WKKK) movement that I knew little about (fascinating & scary) so it‘s my #LiveandLearn for #Booked2020

Wonderful sequel to The Widows!!
I LOVE Sheriff Lily Ross and the group of women that help her manage her family, her home, and her job: her mother and two best friends. They‘re strong, independent women that are true to their time. Just wonderful.
Thank you #MinotaurBooks for the review copy!
This is a great followup to the first book in the Kinship series: The Widows. It‘s an interesting historical mystery with strong women characters.
