This has always been one of my favorite songs from the 80s, but it wasn‘t until about 10 months ago I learned what this song is actually about. Marian Gold lead singer with Alphaville said the song was about two lovers trying to get off heroin. He was influenced by what was happening in Berlin around the Zoo Banhoff area. The book is also about teens addicted to heroin in 1977 in Berlin.

Sax Rohmer's adventure thrillers are a guilty pleasure due to their racism and Rohmer's journalistic role in contributing to the racist trope of "The Yellow Peril". His best-known creation is criminal mastermind / anti-colonial patriot, Dr. Fu Manchu. Less well-known is his female counterpart, Sumuru.
Tunes are Desmond Dekker's Fu Manchu, and the original China Girl by Iggy Pop, both of which I love without guilt!

I own both the book in print & the ebook on my Kindle. I‘ve decided there are too many words I‘m not familiar with, so I‘m going with the helpful built in dictionary. Such a great feature that I almost never use.

I‘ve been a bit rubbish at posting my #BFC21 goals the last few months, so here‘s an achievement instead.

I discovered there‘s a Couch to 5K version of the Zombies Run! app. I‘m kind of obsessed. I‘m managing 2 rather than 3 runs a week (but that‘s 2 more than 0, right?) & I‘m loving it. Yes, I‘m still shambling along, but at least I‘m doing.

I‘ve also shelved the FitBit for August- am trying to focus more on getting outside than counting steps.

I‘ve always been fascinated by Nixon and Watergate, so when my library got the chronological downfall of Nixon structured as a Shakespearean tragedy, I had to say yes! The #audiobook includes bonus excerpts from Nixon‘s actual recordings. This book really deals well with the alliance-shifting in Nixon‘s inner circle.

One of my fav 90s movies is Dick with Dunst and Williams. Will Farrell plays Woodward and says, “There is no Herligman!” ⬇️

#CurrentListen 🎧 This is more of a short story collection, comprised of all female voices offering their perspective on the 10 year Trojan War. It‘s clever and fascinating and full of myth, lore and legend. @Megabooks @BarbaraBB this is my favorite brand of CBD body lotion and their lip therapy is amazing too!! The subtitle of this book says it all. This is a book about the search for identity. Peppered with interviews of families as well as stats & citations, Solomon looks at what it‘s like for parents to raise a child that is fundamentally different from them, like one with Downs Syndrome. He does talk to a few where the parents have the same condition in chapters on dwarfism and deafness and non-hereditary conditions like being the child of rape. ⬇️
