Would I Lie to the Duke
Would I Lie to the Duke: Union of the Rakes | Eva Leigh
4 posts | 7 read | 3 to read
When an ambitious entrepreneur pretends to be a lady of means, she catches the eye—and heart—of a duke... Jessica McGale’s family business desperately needs investors and she’s determined to succeed at any cost. But she knows London’s elite will never look twice at a humble farm girl like herself. Posing as “Lady Whitfield,” however, places her in the orbit of wealthy, powerful people—most notably the Duke of Rotherby. His influence and support could save her company, but Jess never expected the effect he’d have on her. Society thinks Noel is a notorious, carefree duke who dabbles in investments, but there’s a side to him that only his closest friends see. When he crosses paths with Lady Whitfield at a business bazaar, his world tilts on its axis. She’s brilliant and compelling, and brings him to his knees like no woman has before. Trust is difficult for Noel, but Jess makes him believe anything is possible. . . As time ticks down on her Cinderella scheme, the thought of achieving her goal at Noel’s expense breaks Jess’s heart. He doesn’t just want her now, he wants her forever. But will her secret end their future before it begins?

Eva Leigh writes amazing romance heroes. Noel was so charming, and is right up there with Sebastian from Leigh‘s previous book as one of my favorite heroes. I also loved Jess, and they were great as a couple. My only quibble is the HEA felt a little rushed at the end. Can‘t wait for the book in the series, luckily it comes out next week.

4/5

This was a historical romance unlike any I've read before. Jess is a ladies companion to earn money to save her family's business, but poses as a widowed lady when an opportunity to get investors opens up. She and Duke Noel form an incredibly steamy romance.

I really liked it and plan to read more of Eva Leigh's work.

Would I Lie to the Duke? Yes. The answer is yes. While romances based on misconceptions aren‘t always my fave, it was handled so well here. There is an extra layer because Noel, our hero, is sexually submissive. So the lie definitely plays in a major way. And the steam factor was high. #romantsy

I have waited for Rotherby‘s story for the better part of a year, and it did not disappoint. I giggled over the homages in here, and I loved the realistic take on several thorny issues, including the ramifications of telling a lie. I definitely need to do a second read, because I did not savor the first enough. I was too busy trying to see what happened next!
