In Cuba I Was a German Shepherd
In Cuba I Was a German Shepherd | Ana Menendez
9 posts | 4 read | 15 to read
This Pushcart Prize-winning story--a masterpiece of humor and heartbreak--unfolds a series of family snapshots that illuminate the landscape of an exiled community rich in heritage, memory, and longing for the past. At once "tender and sharp-fanged" ("L.A. Weekly").

1. Arthur King of the Brits loves to fetch balls in water, snow, wherever! Yumi (you-me) the cat pretty much hates life since we got Arthur 6 years ago. She still isn‘t over it.
2. Cooking, gardening, drinking coffee and beer.
3. Strawberries and broccoli (not together)
4. The kids did. I‘ve deemed myself too old for them, even though our local candy store makes them with their chocolate
5. See comments

LibrarianJen 5. Does the fact that I didn‘t murder my students today count? I did buy a bag of popcorn as a donation to one of our teachers whose husband needs a new wheelchair. 😊 7y

With today's news of Castro dying I thought I'd link to a post I wrote about my family and my complicated relationship with reading Cuban books: http://bookriot.com/2015/10/06/weight-unread-cuban-books/

vivastory I will definitely read your article . I love Cuban literature -Reinaldo Arenas, Guillermo Cabrera Infants and Jose Lezama Lima are among the greatest Latin American writers. 8y

Matilda @RanaElizabeth I've been reading since I wrote the essay-- apparently I just had to talk about it lol I loved the short stories I tagged this pic with. Also The Prince of Los Cocuyos and The Mortifications. 8y
RanaElizabeth @Matilda Stacked and stacked! Always looking for good diverse reads. The Mortifications looks particularly good. 8y
