Canine Enrichment for the Real World: Making It a Part of Your Dog's Daily Life
Canine Enrichment for the Real World: Making It a Part of Your Dog's Daily Life | ALLIE BENDER, Emily Strong
2 posts | 2 read | 1 to read
In the world of dogs, there is now more awareness than ever of the need to provide enrichment, especially in shelters. But what exactly is enrichment? The concept is pretty straightforward: learn what your dog's needs are, and then structure an environment and routine that allows the dog to engage in behaviors they find enriching. To truly enrich your dog's life, you should offer them opportunities to engage in natural or instinctual behaviors. Aside from the limitations we have to place on a dog in today's modern, busy world, the biggest constraint to enriching your dog's life is your imagination!

According to scientific research thus far, my dogs probably do see me as their mom looking to me for guidance! I freaking love science. I love science in general, but this news *really* makes me love science!

kezzlou85 Yeah I can easily see that. My dog has been poorly lately and just like my girls it's me he wants to be with. Any other time it's my husband 6y

This book keeps blowing my mind! Really glad I decided to read it next, even if I‘m slow as snot at reading NF sometimes. I‘ve been highlighting consistently and brainstorming how I‘m going to implement many of the enrichment activities suggested. If you‘re a dog guardian, this book is worth checking out. Their explanation of dominance versus dominance theory alone clarified a major muddy point for me using examples that anyone can understand.
