Fearless Florida bounty-hunter Lori Anderson travels to Chicago to trap the head of a notorious crime family, in a high-stakes, nail-biting mission that sees her trapped in one of the city''s tallest buildings during a blackout... ''A real cracker'' Mark Billingham ''My kind of book'' Lee Child ''Like Midnight Run, but much darker ... really, really good'' Ian Rankin ---------------------------------------------- A city in darkness. A building in lockdown. A score that can only be settled in blood... Working off the books for FBI Special Agent Alex Monroe, Florida bounty-hunter Lori Anderson and her partner, JT, head to Chicago. Their mission: to entrap the head of the Cabressa crime family. The bait: a priceless chess set that Cabressa is determined to add to his collection. An exclusive high-stakes poker game is arranged in the penthouse suite of one of the city''s tallest buildings, with Lori holding the cards in an agreed arrangement to hand over the pieces, one by one. But, as night falls and the game plays out, stakes rise and tempers flare. When a power failure plunges the city into darkness, the building goes into lockdown. But this isn''t an ordinary blackout, and the men around the poker table aren''t all who they say they are. Hostages are taken, old scores resurface and the players start to die. And that''s just the beginning... ---------------------------------------------- Praise for the Lori Anderson Series ''This is romping entertainment that moves faster than a bullet'' Jake Kerridge, Sunday Express ''If you like your action to race away at full tilt, then this whirlwind of a thriller is a must'' Deirdre O''Brien, Sunday People ''With convincing, gritty local detail, unflinching violence, and a subplot of red-hot romance, all narrated by a likeable, fast-talking heroine, this punchy and powerful adventure will leave you wanting more'' Sunday Mirror ''Stripper-turned-bounty hunter Lori, with her sickly young daughter in tow, gets into high-octane escapes when she sets out to bring her former lover and mentor to justice. When you have to throw all this progress away because the pattern is simply way too big and you would be drowning in the cardigan otherwise. 😭😭 Had to go down TWO sizes in the pattern to make it fit while still being loose and slouchy... 🤦‍♀️Luckily it's a simple crochet pattern and the 'new' cardigan is coming along quickly at least. #amcrocheting

It does mean I haven't been reading much... But so far it's good to meet up with Lori again!

The shitty weather has reminded me that Autumn 🍂 is right around the corner, so I decided to #crochet myself a cardigan. Started last night and I can't believe just how far along I am already! 😱 Sizing that came with the pattern was a bit off though as it seems to be huge so far. 😂 #amcrocheting

Flingogal It looks lovely 5y

Pickpick

Lori has contacted the family offering a prized gold chess set for sale, her offer is accepted but there are conditions. She must play a game of poker! This gives her a few hours to learn the game with the help of JT.

So, dressed to the nines she arrives at the game in a luxury penthouse, but then the power goes out plunging them into darkness and as tensions rise all hell breaks out.

jenniferw88 Is this really scary (like The Matrix/Pan's Labyrinth films)? It sounds interesting but don't want to stack it if it's like those films - I couldn't watch to the end. 5y
Lel2403 @jenniferw88 it‘s very tense as Lori tries to escape a tall building in the dark with people trying to shoot or catch her.....so a bit scary... 5y
jenniferw88 @Lel2403 thank you! Might see if I can get it from the library, that way I won't have wasted money on it if I need to bail! 😘 5y
Lel2403 @jenniferw88 good idea 💕 5y
