A World Lost
A World Lost: A Novel | Wendell Berry
1 post | 3 read | 1 to read
It's the summer of 1944 and nine-year-old Andy spends his time in the farm town of Port William, Kentucky, blissfully frolicking in fields full of tumblebugs and meadowlarks. But calamity strikes on a hot July afternoon when his Uncle Andrew is murdered in a brawl, which Andy thinks he might have been able to prevent. 50 years after the event, Andy looks back to the fateful day that changed his life forever.

Pickpick

This was the 2nd Berry book I read when I finally discovered him. Decided to reread. I think it has the closest connection to my family history (my mom‘s side of family & Berry are from the same county in Ky). Berry based the murder in the story on a real one. My gfa told me he remembered it but may have already left for ww2. There‘s a paragraph where Berry describes the “town” I used to visit as a kid to see my extended family.

Scochrane26 Mostly this book is about grief, death, farming, & a family history of Berry‘s community. 4y
Cinfhen I‘ve been told I would love this author‘s work. Thanks for the reminder 🧡sounds like a special place 4y
