The Booker Longlist 2025 has just been announced.

I‘ve read Audition and have Flesh out from the library

Now I‘m going to investigate the other titles

Any you would recommend?

Ruthiella I‘ve also only read from the longlist 1mo
BarbaraBB I‘ve only read Audition too but at this point I am interested in Flesh, Endling, One Boat and Sescraper 1mo
squirrelbrain I liked Seascraper and The Land in Winter. 1mo

Yesterday, I said I don‘t do Booker Prize predictions. Today, um, here‘s my Booker Prize longlist

Of the ones I‘ve read, I didn‘t really understand the Thien, but it‘s getting lots of #bookerbuzz.

I‘ve included 14 books, as Saraswati and the Desai are both set in India, I think, and I can‘t choose until I‘ve read them both.

And you can guarantee the McEwan will be on there, as it‘s published too late for me to be a list completist! 🤦‍♀️

JamieArc I‘ll look forward to looking these up. 2mo
charl08 I didn't know there was a new Sarah Hall coming, I'll look out for that one! 2mo
squirrelbrain Oh and I had the tagged book on there as well, but decided it was too similar in theme (and length!) to A Room Above A Shop. 2mo

squirrelbrain I‘ll be interested to hear what you think of my choices! @JamieArc 2mo
squirrelbrain I think it‘s out at the end of August, @charl08 - I‘ve applied for it on NG but haven‘t got it yet. 2mo
AnneCecilie I‘m looking forward to the Thien, I love me her latest. I‘m seeing a lot of buzz for A Room above a Store. I would love to see Nesting on there 2mo
RaeLovesToRead I'm definitely going to read the Thien and the Porter after they were put on my radar the other day. Great list! 2mo
BarbaraBB Thank you! I haven‘t heard of most of them. Many authors were nominated before but that‘s typical for the Bookmet so you‘re probably right. Most interested in 2mo
squirrelbrain @annececilie @RaeLovesToRead - I liked the story in the Thien, on a superficial level, but the philosophy went a bit over my head. Rae - I got the Porter a few weeks ago on Everand Audio as I don‘t think it‘s out here yet. 2mo
quietlycuriouskate I may have taken a screenshot. 😁 Also, a new Ocean Vuong! 2mo
RaeLovesToRead I ordered mine from the US because I loved the cover so much! 2mo
Leniverse Nice list! A couple there I'll have to look up. I really hope they don't longlist anything that won't be published until after the shortlist announcement this time. 2mo
Cathythoughts Thanks Helen , great list. I must investigate ❤️ 2mo
JamieArc Well...you got two :-) I was hoping you had already read some so I could see your reviews!
1mo
squirrelbrain Yes @JamieArc - only two, although I so nearly put Seascraper on my list. 🤷‍♀️ I‘ve read 4 altogether. 1mo

The Booker International shortlist is out!

Time to start reading! I have Big Bird and am reading it this week, are there any others people would recommend?

I am on a hold list for Leopard Skin Hat but my library hasn't received any copies yet.

RaeLovesToRead Just filmed my reaction video. This is.... not what I predicted!!!! 5mo
AnneCecilie Unless my library gets Big Bird, I‘m saying away from that. I‘ve read one of her books before and don‘t feel like spending my money on her. I loved On the Calculation on Volume 5mo
BarbaraBB I really enjoyed Perfection and Calculation. Leopard less… I am looking forward to Small Boat and am now reading Big Bird. Not sure about it yet. In general I am happy with the shortlist but I did like other books on the longlist too. 5mo

The International Book Longlist 2025 was just announced

I don‘t follow this prize the same the same way I do Women‘s Prize, but I get easily carried away

I‘ve read one book; On the Calculation of Volume 1, and I love this series & am eagerly waiting volume 6

Then I saw Solenoid which Eric Karl Anderson has been raving about on his YouTube channel & the library has it

My library also had two other books; The Book of Disappearance and Eurorrash

AnneCecilie So I‘ll give them a chance as well. Then I‘ll just see what the library gets in and what gets raved about. What do you think of the list? 6mo
ChaoticMissAdventures I love this prize, I rarely have any of the books on my radar. Women's Prize first then I hope to start reading some of these after! 6mo
BarbaraBB I only read this one a long time ago 6mo
See All 7 Comments
BarbaraBB But I will reread it and many others as well I‘m afraid. Such a promising stack of books. 6mo
AnneCecilie @ChaoticMissAdventures I also think I‘ll prioritize the Women‘s Prizes, but at the same time I want to read all the books 6mo
AnneCecilie @BarbaraBB Would to recommend it? 6mo
BarbaraBB I can‘t remember… it was published in 1982 and I read it shortly after. It‘s set in Surinam and about a divorced woman fighting prejudices I think. 6mo

The winner of this year‘s Booker Prize

Off course it was Orbital.
Guess I have to give it another chance

BarbaraBB I am super disappointed though I guessed it would either be this one or the Kushner. 10mo
AnneCecilie @BarbaraBB Me too, but I had a feeling it would be either this one or Held. Generally my least favorite books win these things 10mo
BarbaraBB I kind of liked it but others were so much better 10mo

The winner of the International Booker Prize 2024 was announced yesterday

One of the few books on the list that I‘ve actually read. I enjoyed it as well.

What do you think of the winner?

Ruthiella I‘ve never read her. My friend in Germany tells me she‘s not that well known in Germany. But I‘ve certainly heard a lot about her in English speaking bookish circles. 1y
AnneCecilie @Ruthiella That‘s interesting. I would have expected her to have been well know there too. Generally speaking, Norwegian authors that get translated into other languages, have sold a lot of books in Norway 1y
Tamra @Ruthiella I enjoyed this one by her, but haven‘t read anything else. Kairos isn‘t really calling to me. @AnneCecilie (edited) 1y

lil1inblue I *just* finished Go, Went, Gone by Erpenbeck. Her writing is good, and there was a lot I liked about the book. But there was a bit of white saviorism, which I felt hurt the overall messages of the book. I think Kairos would be an interesting read - she touches on the East/West legacy in Go, Went, Gone, and it was really thought provoking. I'd be interested to delve further into that. 1y
Graywacke I wasn‘t enraptured, but I enjoyed it a lot and thought the writing was excellent and interesting in complex ways. It‘s a creepy relationship that ties into the world of East Berlin in the mid-1980‘s - and is arguably beautiful in many ways. And it has an odd prose that emphasizes association. Recommended to anyone curious 1y
BookWrym Still waiting for my library hold 1y
BarbaraBB I am happy she won. Kairos was not my favorite of the shortlist but I loved 1y
sarahbarnes I agree that I was glad to see her win and enjoyed this book quite a bit. I didn‘t read all of the shortlist but I think she‘s a fantastic writer. 1y

I‘m excited to see titles I haven‘t heard about on the 2023 Booker long list!

I have read Old God‘s Time & The Other Eden. Loved the Harding novel, which sparked my current read, Tinkers.

The ever expanding TBR……..

jlhammar It is an exciting list! Old God's Time is the only one I've read. Not many are out in the US yet (and a couple don't have US pub dates at all). Definitely going to go for the Harding since I was interested in that anyhow (hope you're enjoying Tinkers so far) and am going to try the audio for If I Survive You. After that, we'll see. 2y
Tamra @jlhammar it‘s so fun to have new titles to anticipate! I hope you like the Harding - it is reflective character development. I‘d say quiet, but that may be the wrong adjective since there is quite a bit of inner and sometimes outward turmoil. (edited) 2y
Ruthiella Wow! I‘m only familiar with Barry, Adebayo, and Murray as authors. Exciting to look into the rest and see what they are about. (edited) 2y

Tamra @Ruthiella yes! I was thrilled I didn‘t recognize many. 2y
Cathythoughts The two you‘ve read are two I have ( but havnt read yet ) looking forward to them 👍🏻😁 2y
Tamra @Cathythoughts I think you‘re going to like them! 😁 2y
Gissy I want to read a couple of them but I‘m still reading some books I bought from Women‘s Prize Longlist😳 2y
Tamra @Gissy I know just what you mean! So many to read. 😅 2y

MicheleinPhilly @BarbaraBB I‘ve read none of them, naturally. 😂 3y

BarbaraBB I only read two but it does look inviting and several books have been highly recommended by some of our friends. So I am not scared to try again this year 😉 3y
MicheleinPhilly @BarbaraBB I own Nightcrawling (and will probably read that this week). I think I also own Oh William and The Trees. 🤷🏻‍♀️ For a librarian, I‘m not very good at keeping track. 😂 3y
BarbaraBB The Trees and Oh William are the ones I read. I honestly loved both! 3y

This year‘s Booker Prize winner

Not my favorite among the shortlisted books, but I still enjoyed this very much and gave me something to think about.

What do you think about this year‘s winner?

squirrelbrain It was my second favourite of the shortlist (the Lockwood was my first choice) so I‘m pleased with this. 4y
sarahbarnes I did love this one, although it would be hard for me to say which of the shortlist was my favorite. I was happy with this being the winner. 4y
mjtwo This was my favourite to win - I really loved it. 4y
See All 6 Comments
Ruthiella I‘d only read this and the Lockwood and I really hated the Lockwood title, so I‘m happy. I‘m definitely going to read Bewilderment soonish, however. 4y
BarbaraBB I enjoyed it too but rooted for Lockwood or Bewilderment! 4y
AnneCecilie @squirrelbrain @sarahbarnes @mjtwo @Ruthiella @BarbaraBB My favorites were Bewilderment and Great Circle. But The Promise is a very good book as well. 4y

This year‘s shortlist has just been announced.

I‘m so happy to see both “No One is Talking about This” and “Great Circle” on the list.

“The Fortune Men” is on its way from the library.

I will probably buy “Bewilderment” when it comes out since I loved his latest “The Overstory”

What do you think of this year‘s shortlist?

Ruthiella I just finished The Promise and thought it was good. I might try and pick up Bewilderment before the prize is announced. 4y
Cinfhen I‘m reading the Great Circle now & I LOVE IT!! And I LOVED 4y
Cinfhen I heard iffy reviews on this one / so i will probably pass 4y
See All 17 Comments
squirrelbrain I‘m really pleased with the same two as you - and also liked The Promise. I‘ll probably try and get the Powers from the library once it is published. 4y
Brimful Not a fan of the Lockwood or the fortune men which I found tediously written although an important story. The others have all been cracking reads 4y
quietlycuriouskate I'm waiting on The Fortune Men from the library, too, and like you am keen to read Bewilderment because I loved the Overstory. 🙂 4y
StellaB I really liked A Passage North. I‘m disappointed that Klara and the Sun has not made the shortlist. 4y
charl08 Interesting! Lots for me still to read. I have started tbe Galgut 4y
charl08 Or even *the Galgut* 4y
AnneCecilie @Ruthiella I also liked The Promise. 4y
AnneCecilie @Cinfhen I‘m so happy to love Great Circle. It‘s an amazing book. I‘ll give A Passage North a try if the library gets it. I‘ve seen too many mixed reviews to want to spend money on it. 4y
AnneCecilie @squirrelbrain I also liked The Promise, but the other two have stood out for me and I still think about them. 4y
AnneCecilie @Brimful I didn‘t know what to think of the Lockwood when I was finished, but it has stayed with me and for me that‘s a sign of a great book. 4y
AnneCecilie @kathedron I‘ll keep an eye out for your reviews 4y
AnneCecilie @StellaB A Passage North seems to split readers so I‘ll probably give it a try if I can borrow it from the library. I didn‘t get along with Klara‘s and was happy to not see it on the shortlist actually. 4y
AnneCecilie @charl08 I liked that one. 4y
Cathythoughts I need to read some of these …I read all the ones that didn‘t make it ( & I loved them mostly 🤷🏼‍♀️😊 4y

This year‘s Booker Prize winner and it‘s the one I bailed on. Guess I will be giving this another chance some time in the future.

JamieArc Did you try listening to it? The audio still wasn‘t the easiest thing to get through - quite long. But the narrator was nice to listen to. 5y
AnneCecilie @JamieArc No I haven‘t. I just put myself on the hold list for the audio on Libby. Thanks for the tips. 5y

These are this year‘s booker 13

I haven‘t read any of them

My library have the books by the following authors: Mengiste, Taylor, Reid, McCann and Dangarembga. Most of them will arrive within the next 2 weeks

I‘ve heard some great things about How Much of These Hills Is Gold, and will probably look into that one

I‘ll read Mantel once it‘s translated. I‘ve read the other 2 books about Cromwell and loved those

What do you think of the longlist?

Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks I haven‘t read or heard of most of them!! 5y
