This book was wild.
This was meticulously researched. The town was presented in a fair, unbiased way, and the author showed empathy for the people (and bears) he wrote about. They weren't presented as caricatures. There was a good balance between humor and seriousness, and I was just fascinated from beginning to end. There was also a good deal of history included to give context as to how this wild idea got started. A really interesting read.

At first I thought it might just be another Daisy Jones & the Six. But it ended up being so much more. There were definitely similarities, but this book definitely dives more fully into the history of the era in which it is set, and shines a light onto the sexism and racism of the time. The characters are well written and complex, and I appreciate that. No one is fully blameless, but no one is fully to blame.

💙Anatomy of a Murder is set in Michigan's Upper Peninsula, where I reside, and the film was shot in the UP, too. (Highly recommend both)
💙Adding a bonus book: The Overstory by Richard Powers. He was born and raised in my hometown in Illinois.

I have to admit I don't read much #nftechnology. I'm not sure why. Maybe I'll find some for the TBR today. And this book looked interesting! #springskies

I originally abandoned this book a couple of years ago, but I was quite sick at that time and having a hard time reading. I figured it was me, so I gave it another shot. Got through 7 chapters and it's just not for me. I don't know enough about the characters to care about any of it. I'll read another Connie Willis book instead.

I've had a small reading slump since the end of March. I only partially blame Beyonce's new album. 🤣 But now I'm getting back into the swing of things. And I'm finally getting around to posting April's #bookspin and #doublespin selections.

1. I've always been inspired by the women in my family. My great-grandmother immigrated to the US by herself at 17. My grandmother took care of her sisters & their farm when her father & brothers were fighting in The Winter War. There's more, but I'm going to run out of space: They are all strong, amazing women.
2. I've tagged Warriors Don't Cry by Melba Beales, one of the Little Rock Nine. (Yes, I have Beyonce's album on the brain.)
