That's me at the party 🥳. Everyone else is playing Lazer Tag while I hold down the table with my book. Yumi Chung was adorable. Just a cute middle grade chapter book about a shy child finding her voice.

Generally I don't love books that center on the main character telling a lie, then spend the entire story trying to keep from getting caught in said lie. They stress me out... so this wasn't my favorite lol
That being said, I do think it is one some of my students will enjoy!
Yumi Chung wants to be a comedian, but she‘s stuck studying hard for a scholarship for school next year since her parents‘ Korean barbecue restaurant isn‘t doing well. When Yumi wanders (mid-day) into the new comedy club in town to catch a glimpse of her favorite performer, a comedy of errors leads to mistaken identity, new friendships, and self-discovery.
Loved this grade-schools novel!

Cute! This was a fun and original middle grade story about a girl whose Korean parents don‘t initially support her interest in becoming a comedian. The book takes place over a crazy summer while Yumi balances studying to ace a scholarship qualifying test, helping her family try to save their restaurant, and secretly sneaking into a comedy camp run by her YouTube comedy idol. She makes friends, makes mistakes, and learns about being herself. 💗

1. Seeing Hamilton on Broadway. Lots of family events.
2. Tagged book, Sense and Sensibility, Harry Potter book 2, recently finished The House in the Cerulean Sea which was excellent.
3. Not enough! It‘s been a busy week with work (the school year ends in 8 days at the school where I work so it‘s been crazy) and I‘ve been in a gloomy mood. I think just the time I have spent reading.
An adorable middle grade novel about an aspiring stand up comedian who accidentally steals another girl's identity to attend a comedy camp with her favorite comedy YouTuber. I loved the messages of finding your voice and pursuing your dreams. And boy oh boy did the last third of the book punch me right in the feels. Lots of great family feeling too.
Bedtime reading with a little book gremlin
Spent all day today at a virtual conference on #middlegrade books, listening to authors talk about their craft and new and upcoming books. I have a kindle full of new ARCs now and lots more on my radar if I manage to finish these 😂 Mostly, though, it was a relief to be able to just focus on books for a day— the most “normal”-feeling #workfromhome day I‘ve had so far.
I loved this book so much, and I‘m so sad to not be in the library to share it with my students! I did, however, immediately read the first chapter for a virtual first chapter Friday. That‘ll have to be enough for now. #LibrariansOfLitsy #AtHomeLearning
I‘m on a roll with middle grade, so I‘m looking forward to diving into this one!
