Started with Tracy Chevalier's Girl with a Pearl Earring, then Susan Vreeland's Girl in Hyacinth Blue, but had to choose this one because Mary Cassatt is my favorite artist of all time! @RealLifeReading

That this was a novella meant it was over soon thankfully. "Novel" is a lie. If it had been, maybe it'd have been better developed. Being a work of historical fiction (told from the POV of artist Mary Cassatt's dying sister Lydia), the author relies on name-dropping instead of filling out the story. I puzzled over their fixation on May Alcott, Louisa May Alcott's sis, also dying/dead. Google her. Maybe May Alcott was the author's true obsession.
