The New Girl: A Novel | Harriet Walker

This debut thriller reads like The Devil Wears Prada meets Single White Female. I couldnt put it down.Catherine Steadman, author of Something in the Water and Mr. Nobody Shes borrowed your life. But what if she decides to keep it? Glamorous Margot Jones is the fashion editor at glossy magazine Haute. Pregnant with her first child, Margots carefully curated life is the object of other womens envywho wouldnt want her successful career, loving husband, beautiful house, and stylish wardrobe? Maggie, a freelance journalist, certainly knows she doesnt measure up. But when she gets the temp job covering Margots maternity leave, Maggie seizes the chance to live a flashier lifeeven if its only for a few months. But the simultaneous arrival of Margots baby and a brutal end to her oldest friendship sends Margot into a spiral of insecurity and suspicion; normal preoccupations of new motherhood turn into dark and frightening paranoia. Who is the vicious online troll mocking Margots facade of perfection and threatening to expose a dark secret shes spent years concealing? Are Maggies newfound ambitions and plucky enthusiasm as innocent as they seem? And what happens when Margot is ready to return to her old lifeespecially if Maggie doesnt want to leave?

This is a brilliant book, that has left me still smiling! It features the joys and the worries every woman who has ever been pregnant will lap it up like a dog.

This book had it ALL from Grief, Jealousy, Envy, Happiness, Friendships that come and go, Secret Keeping, Mystery, Suspense and Anger. Beautifully written that captivated me from the start!

A huge thank you to Goodreads for this ARC!I‘d have to say that this thriller was as good, if not better, than some of the most popular thrillers of the year.I had to keep reading to find out what in the heck was going on between the three main female characters. This book had me thinking of the phrase that you hear so often,”things are not always as they seem”.I recommend this book, and would like to hear your thoughts on it after you‘ve read it.

Lol! Gotta love this quote. How many of these people do you know?

Once again, I find myself in a race against the clock with my pile of library books and their due dates. 🤦🏻‍♀️ But luckily, this has me turning pages like crazy because I just want to find out what the HECK is going on with Margot and Maggie and Winnie and the mysterious Helen... #thenewgirl #harrietwalker

I got kind of bored with the first half of this book, but it gets faster paced in the second half. Decent twists and turns.

So many words. So many twists. So little satisfaction. Sad.

bailed @ 25% 2:26:42—It's too negative and whiny. Maybe I'm just not in the mood. More likely, I just don't want to read another book where women are competing, not mentoring/supporting each other.

Set in London, main character Margot has her dream career as a fashion editor, but with a baby on the way, she must prepare the perfect woman to cover her role. Maggie is perfect... but is there something sinister to her actions? And meanwhile Margot‘s childhood best friend suffers a tragedy that strains their relationship and brings their past secrets to light. Unfortunately these women all are a bit petty- but this is sure to spark discussion!
