One summer. One stranger. One killer... PRE-ORDER NOW: the unmissable new standalone thriller from the bestselling author of The Teacher and Woman in the Water 'It can't happen here...' But what if it does - twice? In their sleepy seaside town, Jasmine and Felicity have only ever felt safe. Until Jasmine's parents invite a stranger to stay, and they sense something about him isn't right. Tim is watching them both. And then their community is rocked by a disappearance... Years later, a second girl goes missing in her hometown, and Felicity is forced to return to face the truth. A predator is stalking the streets. And only she holds the answers. Praise for Katerina Diamond: 'The new Queen of Crime' Heat 'Deliciously dark' Lisa Hall 'Packed with twists until the last page' Closer 'Has the feeling of a nightmare come to life' Lovereading

Local-to-me author, local-to-me setting. The idea of a thriller set in sleepy Sidmouth overrode the fact that I‘m not a fan of psychological thrillers, so this was a misguided must-read.

My main problem was that I didn‘t *believe* in the characters, & by the time we reached an explanation for their strangeness, I really didn‘t care. Having said that, the last 25% just kept twisting and there were so many things I really didn‘t see coming.

Kindle says 1 have 90 minutes left in this ARC. Let‘s see if I can do this skimming thing that some of you are so good at!

Or not. It‘s starting to rain ☔️

TrishB Just had a massive shower here! 4y

rockpools @Nute Lovely! No it‘s 11am here in the UK, and it‘s lovely warm sitting-outside-weather - in between the downpours! Night-time rain is much more considerate 😊 4y
TrishB I was taking the dog for a walk! It was actually quite refreshing, but I got soaked! 4y
squirrelbrain It‘s definitely sunshine and showers up here! ☀️ 🌧 4y

A thriller set in a small Devon coastal town (a town I love, tho the photos on my phone are weirdly limited!!). It was always going to go in one of two directions.

I‘m 25% in, and it‘s not going in the direction I was hoping for. Maybe it‘ll pick up 🤞🤞, but currently I‘m not really believing it and I don‘t really care. But it‘s a #readersfirst ARC by an author I‘d wanted to read for ages, so Onwards!

Cathythoughts Beautiful pic 4y
Cinfhen I LOVE this photo 4y
squirrelbrain I agree with @Cathythoughts and @Cinfhen - lovely picture! 4y

rockpools @squirrelbrain @Cathythoughts @Cinfhen Thank you 🐚- I‘m not sure you‘d recognise Sidmouth from it, but there we go 🤣. Also, I think Litsy has heatstroke #glitchylitsy 4y
YasmiNova Great pic! I spent some time in Devon myself and relished our family visits to the many beautiful beaches (I'd like to say i spent enough time there to recognise the Sidmouth sand but that's not the case 😁). Shame book reviews are not great so far for this one - i read Diamond's DS Imogen Grey series and it was broadly good! A little predictable and lead detectives could be grating, but the writing and pace worked well and stories were gripping. 3y
rockpools @YasmiNova 😂😂 I‘m not sure Sidmouth is *entirely* recognisable from this pic! 🐚 Don‘t let my review put you off though - I don‘t read a huge number of thrillers. It was certainly page-turnery at the end! 3y

Pickpick

This was a really interesting read with a couple of good twists. One I figured out early on but the killers identity caught me out. This is well written and detailed. The story jumps between the present day and the past which works really well. The ending is very good and finishes the story off well. I wasnt sure about Flick at the beginning but as the story goes on you start to warm to her. 3*

I have mixed feelings about this fast paced thriller... told in then & now sections, a seaside community is once again shaken by the disappearance of a young woman. A wife & mother returns, haunted by the memories of the last time someone went missing & is determined to help. With wooden dialogue & undeveloped characters, it‘s only the twisting plot that redeems this one! It‘s a quick read that had me rolling my eyes but kept me turning pages.
