La strana morte dell'ammiraglio
La strana morte dell'ammiraglio | Agatha Christie, Dorothy L. Sayers, G.K. Chesterton
13 posts | 12 read | 11 to read

The Floating Admiral | Agatha Christie, The Detection Club

Finally got to read this neat book! It has been on my to read list for several years. As mentioned in previous posts, this book is written by a detective group who each take turns writing a chapter and trying to connect the dots. The appendix includes each author's proposed solution to the mystery and it is fun to see how many different ways there are go about it. A bit slow, in a solid English mystery way, but definitely worth it for me!

A collaboration of 12 leading crime writers of their day, members of The Detection Club, this is a good old fashioned crime novel

This was written in 1931 by 12 members of the Detection Club, each one writing a chapter. Inevitably, some changes of style are noticeable between the chapters - one moment grated in particular, when the local gossip who wouldn‘t let anyone get a word in edgeways suddenly let the Inspector have his say - but on the whole this flowed well, and I really like the character of Inspector Rudge.

Written in 1931, I read this to try a sampling of various classic mystery writers. The chapters were written by different authors with an appendix in the back telling how each envisioned the crime. The authors included Agatha Christie, Dorothy Sayers, and G. K. Chesterton.

I love the artwork on this cover! I'm not a solid Agatha Christie fan, but I think I need to read more of her books before I can really decide. I've only read one so far, and was not into it at all. I'm sure I'll like her more if I give her another chance, so this one is added to my #LibraryWishlist

Have any of my fellow Littens read this book? Would you recommend? Please let me know. ☺️

rabbitprincess The Detection Club books can be weird because they involve multiple authors continuing each other's work, which can create plot weirdness, or they swap characters, and the in-jokes may be lost on readers unfamiliar with the characters. 7y

'...But there, I'm wandering off the point again. I was going to say - what was I going to say?' The Inspector assured her he had no idea.

The Floating Admiral sits at the top of my reading pile in work. Guarded faithfully by my dragon 'Mark'.
