Holy shit these poems!!!! Sometimes furious, sometimes jubilant, Nate Marshall tells his story, the story of his family, the story of language, of reparations, and of love. I can‘t recommend this book enough!

I wanted to post a lot of these poems, but I‘ll let you check it out yourself. Recommend.
Excellent and highly recommended. This is a remarkable collection of poems. Marshall has a lot to say—profound, angry, humorous, proud, mournful, playful, admiring, pointed, raw, defiant, hopeful, speaking to the past, present and into the future, this is a collection that lingers long after you‘ve finished. Much to think about and I‘m sure I‘ll return to these poems again.
Last night we attended—remotely of course—the Chicago Public Library Foundation‘s Carl Sandburg Literary Award ceremony. This year‘s honorees were Nate Marshall and Isabel Wilkerson. A really interesting evening and I‘m definitely looking forward to reading both books.
